I'm looking for a book I read as a kid (20+ years ago). It was a young adult mystery/adventure novel. The plot involved a kid or group of kids who follow a series of clues to find a treasure. I believe the treasure was a valuable ring, and it was (I think) hidden by an eccentric millionaire. For some reason I think the ring was in the shape of a dragon; in any event, it was very elaborate and rare. Other people were searching for the treasure as well, and the climax of the story involves the ring being lost in a river or lake, but then someone from the estate of the millionaire (a woman, I think, who was either the wife or some other relative) shows up and gives the kids a check for a large amount of money, because they did in the end find the ring.
Some of the clues that I remember involve:
*figuring out where to dig for the ring based upon the position of the moon at a certain time of year; the kids misinterpret this clue at first and dig in the wrong space, before figuring out the correct answer. I think they had to sneak out and dig at night time.
*connecting points on a map of the city to draw an arrow
*one of the clues involved Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony"
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I remember that I got this book out of a library in Canada.
Of course, even though I liked it as a kid, it might turn out to be a real dud today, but I'd really appreciate any help in hunting down this book. Much thanks!
