A preference for history and non-fiction, though the past couple of years has found me with some wonderful literary fiction as well. I attribute much of that to the state of the nation's and world's affairs, and my frustrations with them, driving me beyond the desire to understand the real world, and into the arms of the imagined. Still, books on history and human reason still hold sway.

Always had a love of old books, their look, smell and feel For a while, I both collected interesting books and sold a few. Time doesn't allow for active bookselling right now, but the collecting continues when something strikes my interest. I have a developing collection of vintage books and ephemera on California's redwoods, the Redwood Highway, Redwood National Park, and Humboldt County history...nowhere near complete, but slowly accumulating.

40something married government flunkie, dad of 2, soccer and softball coach. Wish I had more time to read, and I probably would read more if I had the discipline to escape my lazy and prurient internet wanderings and return to the printed page more often. (Like now, perhaps?)

Still, I'm in my element on a comfortably cool morning or afternoon, outdoors with a view, or indoors next to a gently breezed window, with a good book and a glass of wine or cup of organic, shade grown coffee, depending on the appropriate time of day, of course.
