The Royal Society gives an annual award for new popular science writing for a general adult readership. The Prize is open to science books written for a non-specialist audience. The winner receives £25,000 and the authors of the short listed books £2,500.

The awards have changed names many times:
1988 - 89: Science Book Prizes
1990 - 00: Rhône-Poulenc Prizes for Science Books
2001 - 06: Aventis Prizes for Science Books
2007 - 2010 : Royal Society Prizes for Science Books
2011- 2015 Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books (General prize)
2016 - : Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize

The Royal Society gives out awards for popular science writing. Typically they give two awards per year - a junior and a general. There is no 2009 junior award because of budgetary reasons.

The awards have changed names many times:
1988 - 89: Science Book Prizes
1990 - 00: Rhône-Poulenc Prizes for Science Books
2001 - 06: Aventis Prizes for Science Books
2007 - : Royal Society Prizes for Science Books.
