Biology professor Jerry Allen Coyne was born in 1949 and teaches in the University of Chicago's Department of Ecology and Evolution. Coyne was the 1971 class valedictorian at the College of William & Mary. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University and an NIH postdoc in genetics at UC mostra altro Davis. Coyne has been the Vice President of the Society for the Study of Evolution and an associate editor of Evolution and The American Naturalist. Coyne's work has been published in scientific journals as well as The New York Times and The New Republic. He is known for his opposition to the creationist theory of intelligent design. Why Evolution is True (Oxford Landmark Science) di Jerry A. Coyne
Yup; hard to understand that a book like this is necessary. I don't really care what others believe, but it becomes a problem when they push their tin foil hat agenda into politics. I wish I could remember every word of the arguments in this book to call upon as needed.
½Good review of the theories behind evolution with lots of interesting examples. A bit repetitive a times, but overall quite enjoyable.
The author, a prominent biologist and atheist, explains why faith and science are incompatible. He discusses why accomodationism doesn't work and bluntly discusses the case against faith. He believes religion is actually bad for science, and that religious scientists suffer much cognitive dissonance. He writes with lucid prose, without a lot of jargon that could leave a non-biologist or non-atheist behind. He makes his case against acccomodationism, but overall, he could have been stronger in the case. Recommended.… (altro)
Easy to understand, well thought through reasoning why science and religions are incompatible and why the religions in whole are harmful for the humanity.
