Growing up in the rural mountains of North Carolina, working on her family's flower farm, June Farrow comes from a line of "cursed" Farrow women. Her mother died tragically at a young age, and throughout the years, a sort of madness seems to envelop each generation. June knows that she is no different and when she starts hearing and seeing things, she knows she is doomed. Upon her grandmother's death, she receives a cryptic clue and when a mysterious red door appears, she passes through it in the hopes of discovering the secrets of her mother's death and the mysteries that have haunted her family for decades.

I devoured this one. It was right up my alley with the promise of family secrets, mystery, and time travel, and it checked all those boxes and more. I've not read a book this quickly in quite some time and now that I've finished, I am wishing it wasn't over. This made my brain hurt in some aspects, as time travel novels often do, as I tried to rationalize and make sense of the altering timelines, but at some point you've got to just go with it and enjoy the ride. So I did. This is likely not everyone's cup of tea, but it was probably my favorite read of the year thus far.

A slow burn but an ethereal one. I thoroughly enjoyed this and will definitely be reading the second one and Saint! I felt part of this took forever to truly delve into but nonetheless I did like seeing the intense moments between Willa, Fable and West. An interesting twist on an almost pirate theme reminded me of Pirates of the Carribean obviously not the same scenery but captured a near essence and that ending tho *spoiler* I got chills man!

she has a choice between 1951 and 2023 and STAYS IN 1951 !!!!!!??????

also the three mentions of tangential Black characters and the half page note that “Black people may have experienced the tobacco farms of North Carolina differently in the 1950s” just did not do it for me.

It’s ok but the time travel logic of this one was just confusing.
