An interesting read into the process of writing a book and the publishing industry. It was very 'meta' to read a book about writing a book and the fiction book that was being written was the book you were reading. The characters were interesting, and it was easy to relate to them and feel their pain. A good read.

Love the depth of relationships among the friends and the unfolding, entwined stories that unfold over this series. It starts with 10 Beach Road.

Three women, strangers to each other inherit a beach house, and take on the challenge of restoring the historic Mediterranean Revival style house to its former glory in Ten Beach Road by Wendy Wax. This is a very enjoyable read with elements of humor, with new found friendship, and fullfilling ones dreams. Wendy Wax sure drew me in with all the drama that each of the women brought into the telling of all the turmoil involved in renovating the beach house while trying to handle the lives of each woman's complicated life. I loved the descriptions of the beach house, the surrounding area and the dialogue between the women, their mates, and the minor characters throughout the book. I will definitely be reading more of Wendy Wax's books, especially the sequels to this book!

Memorable and promising title -
unfortunately, the silly Kyra loan thing detracted from the plot,
as did Nikki's endless Joe angst.

Maddie, Avery, Deidre, and Nikki contend with renovating William the Wild's Island against his wishes.

Characters are memorable and fun while plot is enjoyably predictable.

Low points:

Diversity (Native American heritage and Jamaican sheetrock workers) is still not a priority;
even when The Blues are mentioned, there are no Black artists.

Excessive brand and name dropping.

This book is the perfect example of how a book club can bring together people from different backgrounds, ideas, jobs... and bring them together to enjoy a common hobby. The book club brings together Sara, Judith, Jazmine, and Erin and is told from each of their points of view.

I can see how some might struggle to get into the book in the beginning if someone struggles with keeping characters straight (like myself), but once you have a grip on the characters, the book is quick and flows well. These gals are really great, well-developed characters.

Whenever a book is about books out book clubs, I want to read it. The Break-up book club is a beach read book. Mainly about 4 women in various stages of their lives, and their relationships with men. All of these women are members of a book club and through friendships developed there, they help each other.
Judith is a wife and mother of 2 adult children. Her husband Nate feels that their marriage is stale. Jazmine, a sports agent, and single mother is hesitant to date again after losing her fiancé. Sara is married to Mitch, and he has decided he doesn’t want children, and has brought his mother, Dorothy- who doesn’t like Sara, to live with them. Erin is a young woman engaged to Josh, a baseball pitcher, who decides he doesn’t want to get married.
Each of these relationships take a turn in the novel and the women need to depend on each other for support.
I enjoyed all the books they discussed, and the story was cute.

Not my usual type of book. A couple of the interactions between some of the characters were I felt contrived but an entertaining read none the less.

I enjoy revisiting the Ten Beach Road characters, but overall didn't enjoy the book as much as some of the earlier ones.

Just as well written and silly, maybe sillier, than the first one, but it sure was fun to read.

This was an engaging but thoroughly ridiculous book. I enjoyed it so much that I'm reading the sequel. So far it seems equally engaging and ridiculous. What else could you ask for when you want entertainment?

Not as good as the original one in the series, but fun to revisit the characters.

I've really enjoyed other books I've read by her, but didn't like this one. The protagonist was truly insufferable. I thought about quitting but wanted to find out what happened with the other, less annoying characters, so I skimmed a lot of the book. A big disappointment.

Satisfying. Just what I was looking for; nothing too deep and a happy ending.

It may seem I give out lot of 5 star reviews, not true, I just read a lot of 5 star authors... Wendy Wax has always been one of my all time favorite authors and I never miss a book. This is a stand alone, not Ten Beach Road, and it was a delightful, wonderful read. We all wish we could find a book club with this much enthusiasm and endurance as these woman and men have for their club. I also wish to send again to Wendy Wax my deepest, sincerest, condolences for the loss of her husband to COVID.

Lauren and Bree were best friends once upon a time. Until, that is, Bree married Lauren's boyfriend after Lauren heads off to NY on her own and doesn't come back. To make matters worse, Lauren's mom has taken Bree under her wing. Lauren returns home to get the wedding dress that has been passed down in her family, and her mom has to give up a secret long held in order to get the friends to forgive each other before the wedding.

I really enjoyed this book. Author Wendy Wax created complex, flawed characters that were honest, very relatable, albeit infuriating at times. I definitely was sucked into the story emotionally. The multiple viewpoints were handled well, and the story moved at a solid pace. This is a book that is all about forgiveness and friendship.

I've been going to the Outer Banks for years (and my husband grew up going there every summer) so I definitely felt an emotional pull for her setting, and her descriptions were spot on (including a few longtime favorites.) Her setting was definitely well researched.

I read this in one sitting, and I would love to see more from these characters!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Ten Beach Road by Wendy Wax
Contemporary women’s fiction. 1st in the Ten Beach Road series.
Three women, each having lost their life savings to a Ponzi scheme, inherit a portion of a beach house. Together, they decide to repair and renovate the house while dealing with life issues as a result of the changes in their lives.

Managing life issues is no easy task. This book is at times heartbreaking, disquieting, and life affirming. The women are strong survivors and determined and that’s what makes this story worth reading.
3.5½

I actually flipped to the flyleaf in this book because I came across transphobic comments, characters justifying their insecurities, etc. Not that it was ever OK, but this book was just published 4 years ago in 2017, so I was very surprised. This is my own fault, but I didn't realize this was a series and that I had picked up the 6th book. You open the book and there are a dozen characters you are supposed to know right away and a lot of reminiscing about past characters. I had a hard time keeping track of who is who. The story in and of itself as a concept was one I could get through just fine and possibly enjoy? But, the character groups who had their own storylines and their own group of characters mean I never really got to know anyone very well at all. Accept maybe Maddie, Kyra, and Nikki. The elderly formerly wealthy woman reminded me of the character, Bitsy, from the animated tv show, Central Park. I don't think there is any theft of ideas, but it just shows that the character was a caricature that anyone could pick up. The Love Story of Missy Carmichael is my favorite book of the year so far and really does justice to the concept of the inner world and life of an elderly woman. I don't think I'd pick up any others in this series.

The Break-Up Book Club by Wendy Wax is more than a book about women in a book club. We get to meet a group of diverse women who are going through some challenges. I thought the author created realistic characters going through true-to-life situations. I loved Between the Covers bookstore where the book club meets each month (I want a bookstore like this in my area). The Break-Up Book Club is a well-written with the story moving along at a steady pace. The point-of-view changes between Erin, Sara, Judith, and Jazmine. It is easy to keep track of each lady because their voices are unique. I liked seeing the ladies grow as individuals and in their friendships. Dorothy, Sara’s mother-in-law, is a character who shows us that you truly never know a person. The book does contain foul language and intimate situations (just to let you know). The Break-Up Book Club is an engaging and emotional story that had me staying up very late to finish it. I liked getting to know this group of women who find comfort and a sense of belonging in the book club. There is humor in the story as well. I especially loved the names the people came up with for the book club. There were some amusing suggestions. I also loved all the wonderful books discussed and mentioned throughout the book. The Break-Up Book Club is a great book to read while lounging by the pool or while on vacation. The Break-Up Book Club is a pleasing tale about a louse of a spouse, firm friends, startling revelations, a composed mother-in-law, shocking secrets, and a bevy of books.

As a huge Downton Abbey fan I was so excited about this book then I realized it took place in Atlanta and I was hooked.

Overall, I really enjoyed the characters but felt like the first half of book was an introduction to all, the middle focused on Claire( who is my least favorite) and the end was all about Samantha. I kept wanting more Brooke, although her story line seems pretty predictable. I hope we get a sequel as they watch season 3 (and 4?) of DA, which based on the ending seems like a possibility.

This was fast read for me. I'm used to reading thrillers so this was a very nice change of pace for me. This for me is what most people call a beach read. It was a nice, lite interesting story. It was a refreshing change of the stories I normally read. Loved the characters and it seemed like it could happen for real. I don't like books that are so far fetched that you find it impossible to even enjoy because you know it could not happen.with that said I'd give this 4 stars and recommend it to anyone who wants a lite read.
