Easy-to-read text, and what kid doesn't love being in the know when the main character isn't?

This book is for primary age students. This is a silly story about a cat that knows he likes to chase... but doesn't know WHAT a mouse looks like. Will he end up chasing the wrong thing? This is a simple narrative that would be a silly story to entertain 3-5 year old children. (Home, not classroom.)

This beautiful picture book is an inspiring story celebrating creativity and imagination. A little artist goes on a quest to explore the world. Stopping in a town, she shares her art with the people around her, painting large buildings with beautiful colors. But as she creates a new drawing, she colors outside the lines. Ashamed of herself, the artist thinks that her creative journey is over, but the people of the town encourage her and remind her that it is ok to make a mistake, as it is how we learn.

I love the strong message shared in the Artist, that will surely talk to all little creators. It is a joyful and inspiring story ! I really love the art as well, all these splashes of colors are truly wonderful !

I love this book. Even the squirrely kiddos were completely entranced by the end of it. It's perfect for winding down at the end of a storytime.

It’s all about inflection in this quick read about two monkeys who learn to share a banana. The entire text consists of only two words: “banana” and…well, I won’t spoil it for you. Just know that the second word is a magic word. In a volume with such sparse text, the pictures (and the subtle changes in font and punctuation) become the stars. Choose this book if you are a read-aloud champion (e.g., if you can say the word “banana” in 8 different ways) or if you like a story that can be understood largely through its illustrations.

This is the second Max book I have read. The main character, Max is an adorable kitten. It si time for bed and he is very sleepy. He completes his bedtime rituals, laps up his milk, brushes his teeth, even cleans behind his ears and says good night to all his friends and prize possessions, his fish, his box, his spider, and then looks up to say goodnight to the moon. But, where is the moon? It is not in the sky. Max heads off to see if he can find the moon. Will he find it? Will he be safe? Will he be able to go to sleep if he can not find the moon?

The illustrations are vibrant and uncluttered. Max is portrayed as tiny in a big world with a dog, a tree, houses, buildings etc. showing his small size. I loved the colours used in this story. They are night time colours, yet still colourful enought to attract the attention of the listener. This is a perfect bedtime story for little ones with a happy, but sleepy ending. I recommend this book to all family libraries to be read aloud over and over again.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Cute book. I have to agree it's a little bit of "Are you my mother?" Max is a cat that is tired of being thought of as cute. He wants to bravely stalk and chase a mouse, but he has no idea what a mouse looks like. We follow Max on his quest to find and catch a mouse. I really loved Max's expressions. Cute illustrations and a book pre-schoolers would love to learn simple words from. They will surely ask to be read this one over again.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this book.

Max is a kitten who does what kittens do. He wants to chase birds. When he meets Bird, he asks him to be his friend, then he tells him he wants to chase him and eat him. Bird tries to explain that friends do not do that. Kitten does not understand so Bird makes him a deal. If Kitten teaches him to fly, then he can chase him. As they research flying and try to learn, they develop a real friendship helping one another. This book is about making friends. It shows that working together and encouraging one another, helps to make them real friends. It is a cute story with simple and cute illustrations. A great book for families, classrooms, schools and public libraries. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of the book via Netgalley.

What a cute way to share this important message. Grumpy Frog knows what he likes and is not really willing to change. When he finds himself all alone, he needs to think about the reasons he has no one to play with. This story is about tolerance, not always getting our own way and learning about give and take. You can even stretch it to acceptance of differences in race and culture. Grumpy Frog learns that if he wants to have friends he needs to make some changes and co-operate with others. The illustrations are cartoons done by Ed Vere. Wonderful. A great book for primary and even junior students. A good addition to school and class libraries. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Leonard is a gentle lion who likes to daydream and make up poems. Instead of chomping a duck, he makes friends with her. But Leonard and Marianne's friendship angers the other lions. What will Leonard do? Make up a poem, of course, with Marianne's help:

"I'll say this quietly,
I needn't roar to be heard,
I can be a friend
to a bee or a bird.
You said I must change, I must chomp Marianne,
but chomping your friends is a terrible plan.
Let nobody say
just ONE way is true.
There are so many ways
that you can be you.
If there MUST be a must, then this we must try...
Why don't you, be YOU,
And I, will be I."

Toxic masculinity, begone!

Re-read (at a friend's house) March 2020; had forgotten it almost entirely, and enjoyed it all over again.½

Leonard is not like the other lions. He is gentle, kind and he writes poetry. The other lions do not understand. They think all lions should be the same.
This title is recommended for ages 3-kindergarten. It is a great read aloud for storytimes. The author uses both words and illustrations to craft a story about a misunderstood lion. It would also work for older students for the book a day program. The title is thought provoking and would foster discussion about what it means to be yourself.
