Stand in My Shoes is a very straightforward book about empathy. The protagonist, a young girl, learns about the word empathy and then we follow her through the day as she decides to figure out how people are feeling. People appreciate this thought and they ways she helps them, and so Emily feels good about her day. The story is uncomplicated (potentially dull?) and the illustrations are a little off. I give this book 4 stars though, because it would be a good book for a student with special needs. Often, books about empathy are full of metaphors, which can be challenging for certain students. This book gets straight to the point, which is not always a bad thing.

The story begins when Emily goes to talk to her big sister. Her big sister is busy studying for a test and she asks Emily to have empathy. Emily begins to wonder what empathy means, and when her sister tells her, she Emily puts it in to action. The next day, Emily notices that her father seems stressed. He has to be at work for a presentation and he has just spilled coffee grounds all over the floor. Emily notices how he is feeling, and offers to help him clean up. At school, Emily notices how her peers, teachers, and even cafeteria workers seem to be feeling. Emily tries to be as helpful as she can with each person she encounters. When Emily arrives home, she asks her mom how she is feeling. Shocked by the question, Emily's mom points out that Emily seems to be extra thoughtful. At the end of the story, Emily returns to her sister and tells her what she has learned about empathy. At first, Emily does not understand what it's like to care for the feelings of others. By the end of the book, Emily begins to understand that developing empathy causes a change within herself.

Empathy is a very difficult feeling to explain and this book does a good job of doing just that. The illustrations are semi realistic and represent real life. This book would be aimed at the higher end of preschool aged children.

Summary: Pete is a new kid in town and he soon shows signs of being a bully, such as taunting others, putting them down, and squirting juice on them. When the kids at his new school see the way he is treating these students, they stand together to let him know that his behavior is unacceptable and teach him about "The Promise" in their school.

Reflection: This book focuses those who stand, watch, and do nothing: the bystanders. This book is great in that it offers real solutions for kids who see bullying and feel powerless to do anything about it. It would be an excellent read-aloud book where the whole class can engage together in discussions.

"The Juice Box Bully" is one of the best books about bullying I have ever read. Sometimes it is hard to address bullying correctly in children’s books. The message of the book is not necessarily about how important it is to not be a bully, but being understanding and forgiving when someone is doing something wrong. When a person is wronging us it is almost too easy to lash out at them because they deserve it right? No, that should never be the answer. Taking a stand and stopping bulling is very important, but showing them kindness and trying to understand them is just as important. Maybe the bully is going through something at home or perhaps they were once bullied. Children need to understand that bullying is wrong and that if they see it happening they should not just ignore it. They also need to understand that even a bully has feelings and they should be treated with kindness as much as anyone else.

Stand in My Shoes is a book about empathy and understanding. Emily learns about empathy from her sister one night and decides to take a better look at people and their feelings during her day. While doing this, she learns a lot and ends up making peoples day better. This is a great book to use in the classroom because noticing how someone is feeling is an important skill everyone should have. Having empathy leads to good social and communication skills as well personal relationships. It would be good practice for students to get together and talk about what empathy means to them and how they can be empathetic throughout their everyday lives.

A little girl ,Emily, wants to see how other people feel. To do so she has to see thing how other people would. This is where the phrase talking a walk in someone elses shoes would come in. She discovers what the meaning of empathy is while standing in some ones elses shoes.

Classroom:
1. Have the students write what they think empathy means.
2. Tell who's whose they would walk in if they had the chance to see the world through someone elses eyes.

Love this book about bullying. A story about how students handle and stand up to bullying. They handle it in a very nice way and stop bad behavior that encourages bullying. A lesson to be learned.
