Quite simply, the best photography book I have ever read. From the era of color film, which is unique in that it really couldn't be edited. It all came down to the skill of the photographer, which makes a book from this era much more useful than its darkroom-edited predecessors or photoshopped successors.

And a great book of outdoorsmanship and adventure as well!

Rowell admirably produces a decent expedition book from very little material. Lavishly interspersed with swathes of colour photographs and dotted with Black & White photos within the text, the book is then padded out with long recycled passages of historical detail. This is the first real bare-all climbing account where the tradition of being tight-lipped is broken with and the internal strife and aggravation is laid out for all to see.½

He Had an Excellent vision of the world and was able to communicate it with his very inspirational writings, I love this book and I will keep reading it, over and over, I sure miss this guy, but feel his spirit within me.

One of very few mountaineering books with an actual story to tell. Well written, really lets you into the climber's heads. No sugarcoating here. Well recommended.
