This is a charming collection of nine children's stories from another era. It was first published at a time when England was only just recovering from WWII but clearly still retained much of it's Empire; as such the flavour is very much evident in these stories.
Rom-bom-bom - the title story is about a little lamb who outwits a Fox, a tiger, a wolf and a lion from eating him on his way to Grannie's house.
Little kid Monday - is about a little goat who does not like bath time and gets his just deserts when he decides to play a trick on his Maa-aa.
Henry Hornbill - is a carefree loud and proud bird who bites off more than he can chew when he gets married.
F. Coconut Esquire - Billy was an ordinary sort of boy who never dreamed that he was really a fairy.
Kicking tree - is the name given to a baby giraffe who proves to everyone that being short has it's advantages.
Egbert the grumbler - is all about a bright young camel who is always complaining about everything.
Spin, the Dutch spider - discovers that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side.
Jones's Titus - learns that the place where he is king is right in his own home.
Finally, Klass the stone-cutter - is a telling of the popular fable of a poor man who muses about trading places with what he perceives to be ever more powerful states of being before finding out that being a stone-cutter is greater than them all.
I have given this book five stars because I have now been asked to re-read it three times in the same week as it has become a favourite at bedtime for my own children and it has not been a chore doing so.
