A Little Bit of Magic and a Lot of Fur (Mage Mates… di Lisa Oliver
A sweet little love story that had the potential to be more. Characters and plot left undeveloped. There was a ton of potential here, but no realization. Characters are flat. Plot is basic and too many unanswered questions. The true villain of the piece never stepped onto the pages and we are left in the dark as to motive and any other detail. So much so that when the grandfather questions the intermediate bad guy it is off page. Why and how did he get involved? Not the grandfather, the in-between guy. I enjoy Lisa Oliver, but lately? Her story telling is suffering.… (altro)
Well . . . . not what I expected. I expected a sweet, fun little story written in Lisa's style - which has a fairly smooth flow.
What I got was . . . not that. First - no attempt at character development. Second, the flow and style were very much like that of a teenage middle school student, and since I have spent 20 years reading and assessing that level of writing, I know what I am talking about. Finally, the plot line felt slapped together and seemed to come in chunks. Don't get me wrong - there was potential, it just was not even close to being developed.
It does not read like a Lisa Oliver story. So disappointed.… (altro)

This was a strange one for me. I enjoy Lisa Oliver books. This one just had some strange 'vibes.' First - it was a fun quick read - and the author does state it is shorter than the rest will be.
As the initial book in a new series, its job is to set the scene - so to speak. It does do that.
However, it had a few issues for me - places where it just rang false. The characters were strange. The demon MC was a simple, child-like personality. The dual shifter MC was supposedly rare but everyone recognised him? The antagonist for this plot was an idiot who controlled the lives of assassins and the assassins didn't recognize that he was an idiot? The dual shifter worked long hours as a mechanic and his hobby was rebuilding houses to set empty?
Maybe I missed the point? Give it a read and tell me what you think.… (altro)

Sean Crisden's Dragon voice! Absolutely perfect! (the narration bumped this up to 4 Stars)
Listened to the audio sample for book 2 in the series... Nope, no can do. Will have to read the rest if I choose to continue the series.
