Good addition to the series. Really enjoy the fact that the women are as "alpha" as the men in this series. Looking forward to the next book about brother #3, Iolyn, meeting his mate. ;^D

Security Specialists International is a private security agency which takes on government contracts and private jobs no one else wants. The series revolves around the security agency contracts and the personnel employed. Although each book is standalone to a certain extent (as in there is a heroine, hero and a happily ever after to each one) there is an overarching plot through the series focusing on a DOD traitor who has been compromising intel and profiting off of information leaks.

That's one of the main things I really love about this series. Even though there's romance and sex and a ton of humour- there's a lot of plot and while each book can be read standalone - reading them in order lets the plot build into something special. Actually it's kind of like Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series insofar as the plot running through each book. I like the whole jigsaw puzzle being put together as each book is released.

The third book in the series follows Vanko and his love interest Elana. I loved this book. The romance happens really quick but it's just so damn adorable. Plus this series doesn't claim to be anything other than what it is. The characters joke and refer to the whole insta love thing often and there's so much humor, action and romance it's very easy to ignore.

I love Vanko and I love Elana. Elana is so fierce and strong and resilient. Like most of Monette Michael's heroines she's a survivor. Vanko is so sweet to her, always trying to take care of her and make sure she doesn't overdo it.

I love how the plot all ties in. The end of Cold Day in Hell refers to the meeting of the traitor and Croaker. Tweeter refers to Tessa falling off the cliff in Storm Front when he speaks to Vanko. It all ties in so neatly and makes this series feel more like one big story rather than individual books.

Great book. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5.

The second book in the series focuses on Keely's childhood friend, Calista Meyers - a supermodel who attracts the attention of a drug cartel while in Colombia on her final modelling job. Keely sends Risto Smith to extract Calista from Colombia. I loved Calista. She's not as badass as Keely but she's still pretty badass. She knows how to keep cool, calm and collected while running from danger. Their relationship develops pretty fast but I really enjoyed it. There's lots of plot and some funny one liners and fluffy romance. Risto was a bit of an idiot but he eventually got with the program. I loved Conn, I hope he gets a book. Overall very enjoyable. Great book. 4 stars.

The first book in the Security Specialists International follows Ren Maddox, owner of SSI and all round alpha male and Keely Walsh - one of the best heroines I've ever read. Keely Walsh is total badass - she's smart, feisty and can totally take on all the boys. Half the time - she's better than them. This book is utterly hilarious - there are so many great one liners and funny exchanges. Particularly Mrs Molly Walsh's ideas on how to handle overprotective men. Explain literally, in great detail and at great length. Hereby distracting an overprotective male. Lol. Although the romance progresses pretty quick, it's easy to overlook and very enjoyable to read. Great first book in a great series. 4.5 stars.

Tweeter gets his story! The brother and designated protector of Keely at MIT, Tweeter is a computer hacker extraordinaire and he meets his match in pilot, DJ Poe. I loved Tweeter in the first few books and I loved him in this - especially his new nickname from DJ (Ace) . He's so sweet and patient with DJ and really understanding of her triggers. And DJ was fantastic. She's overcome so much to get to where she is and it was awe inducing. She's brave and skilled and resilient - like all of the females in/at/around SSI.

The romance was so sweet my teeth ached and it was majorly instalove but it's par for the course with the genre to be honest. The action wasn't as full on as some of the previous books in the series but what was there was intense. DJ was kickass in her role as arm candy and badass. I loved the intro to Dawn Wilson. She's so mean - I loved it. I can't wait to reread Dawn and Croaker's story.

4.5 stars, rounded to 4.

What can I say? I love a good hero as a villain in disguise. And Croaker delivered.

The third novella in the series, Hot as Hell follows bad guy Sam Croaker and former Interpol agent and new SSI member, Dawn Wilson. Unlike the previous books, Croaker and Dawn were introduced in the last novel. I mean the romance still happens instantly but they have a least a slight build up.

Dawn was awesome. As bad ass as Keely for sure. And Croaker was a total sweetie. The chemistry between them was off the charts. It was fantastic. I loved the friendship between Dawn and Keely and the way they worked together to take down the bad guys before their men got home. The action is as intense as per usual - this novella wraps up the DOD traitor storyline which was cool. I enjoyed finally knowing the traitor gets his just desserts. I can't wait to see where this series goes next.

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

This novella is available for free through Prolific Works. I loved Earl and Tessa's story. It's not as action packed as the others in the series and the romance happens really fast but Earl is such a kind man and Tessa is so strong and resilient. She's suffered so much in her life but she is a survivor - she won't let any of it keep her down. She does have a few insecure moments but she overcomes them. The suspense and mystery are good although fairly obvious. You can see the plot twist a mile away. But it is written very well and totally worth it. 3.5 stars.

I loved this novella. For a novella there's a lot of action and a whole lot of plot. This time Keely fights off the bad guys while pregnant. I love Keely and I loved getting to revisit her story. And it was just as funny as the last book. Brilliant. 4 stars.

This series is awesome. Great suspense, great emotion. And great editing as well.

I also like the fact that there isn't any sneaking in of BDSM-lite, which is a huge turn off. I may be in the minority but not everyone thinks that spanking and pain is the way to go. Especially those of us that have experienced sexual abuse or rape. I don't buy the "its different" BTDT. I expect the courtesy and respect of some warning about it with the books - or I will stop reading that author.

This author continues to show respect and care when dealing with main characters who have experienced abuse or rape, and deals with close encounters with the bloody side of life without it becoming gross.

Kudos.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Disappointing. I am saddened to see that the author has caved to adding non labelled BDSM to the sex. It was a good series.
It includes:
- spanking for punishment to the point of pain that needs healing and prevents normal activity
- bondage

I was able to give it a second star since the author does differentiate between activities that cause bleeding and such from the other.

I wait with bated breath for when authors start to realize that erotic doesn't have to equal BDSM and pain. What a turnoff.

Only for those that find pain a turn on. Ew. Again, warning is good if authors don't want to find themselves on the Never Read Again list. Its too bad. I was liking this authors storylines, but I refuse to pander to the BDSM bullshit. Sorry charlie.

I was raped and later married to someone that was into BDSM. I think I have a handle on it. Grow up.

It also has some laugh outloud moments and a very funny scene about vegetables. I cannot wait for what I hope is a long series.

Another kick ass heroine.. Calista Meyers is a supermodel who was tricked into doing a fashion shoot in Columbia. What it really was a way to get her into the country where a bad paramilitary leader planned to kidnap her and keep her as his woman. After threatening her twin brothers if she attempts to leave the country she calls her childhood friend Keely Walsh and SSI for an extraction out of the country.

SSI sends Risto Smith to rescue Callie. Risto has never met anyone like Calista before. She looks like a supermodel but was trained in warfare games and to be a sniper by her father and the Walsh's.

This comes in really handy as Risto and Callie have a heck of a time getting out of Columbia. I love Ms Michaels kickass women.

Once they make it out of Columbia Risto leaves her in Panama and disappears. Dumbass men always thinking they arent good enough.. After finding out that Cruz was kicked out of Columbia and is in the US after her she calls for help again.. This time Risto and team along with our sniper Callie set up to take the bad guys down in one bad ass shootout in the UP of Michigan.

We do finally get to meet the DOD traitor at the end of this book (no not his identity) and he is pissed that SSI keeps foiling his plans and plans to take them out once and for all before they figure out his identity.

Looking forward to the next book..

Short, but none the less sexy and full of SSI action.

Earl Blackhawk is at the SSI compound after helping Risto on a mission and to be Risto’s best man when he married Callie. Callie's best friend and fellow model Tessa Andrews was the bridesmaid and it seems Callie has been trying to do a bit of matchmaking between the two.

But Earl notices that something isnt right with Tessa and is keeping a close eye on her. Seem Tessa's past has come back to haunt her. For 5 years she was held captive by sexual slavers before she managed to escape. Now she is getting video's of those times when she was help captive and text messages. Once Earl finds this out he and the SSI team go to work to find the sick pervert who branded her all those years ago to bring him down once and for all.

The romance was fast and hot as per the norm for a SSI book and the action was satisfying too. Never disappointed.

I am a SSI junkie. I’ve loved this series from the start. What are you going to get in a SSI book – plenty of action, very bad guys who do despicable things but you know will get their punishment, and a sexy alpha male that knows how to pleasure a woman.

The lovable but deadly Ukrainian Vanko Petriv finally gets his book. Vanko may be tough on the outside but he really wants a woman of his own to love. When he’s assigned to go get a woman who can finally identify the DOD traitor that has been trying to kill them since the first book he knows right away this is his woman.

Elana is from Russia but placed in the United States with a new identity after a sick Russian Mafia head killed her parents and sexually assaulted her due to his fascination with her. She works at a college library when one night she accidentally overhears a man put a hit out on Keely Walsh and the SSI Team. Soon after she has a hit out on her on head and finally manages to get to Vanko where the two of them are not only on the run from the mercenaries that the DOD traitor hired to kill them but also from the Russian who now knows she is alive and will do anything to get her back.

I have to say Ren used to be my favorite but Vanko has now taken top spot. You are never bored in a SSI book and this one was no exception. I did think we were finally going to get a conclusion on the ongoing traitor arc but the author likes throwing in those surprises. Thank you Monette for another great book in the series and I look forward to the next.

I absolutely love this author's sense of humor and the way she sets up and executes an action scene. There are no whimpering women in a SSI book that need a man to save them but yet they do love their strong alpha men.

Stuart “Tweeter” Walsh wasnt a SEAL or a Marine like his brothers. He was a computer geek but just as tough. Since being introduced to him in the first book of the series I've looked forward to seeing what the author would come up with for his story. I was not disappointed.

DJ (Dahlia Jane) Poe is the latest recruit for SSI. Her childhood of being raised by an abusive father with ties to the militia and being violated by another man made her go on to become a kick ass Army helicopter pilot who takes no crap from any man. But her unresolved past and trauma come back to haunt her in more ways than one.

When this author writes action scenes they are a force to be reckoned with. She doesnt shy away from having the women of the series be the ones that take down the bad guys and blends that with plenty of humor. Keely and Callie were already two bad ass women and adding DJ to mix no bad guy stands a chance against them.

There is a lot that happens in this book. Not only the story line of her father and the militia group that want her back along with her mother that she finally managed to get away from them but also a separate SSI mission that included characters from the past and those two almost stole the show with their banter – I will forever laugh when I see the words Crock of shit now :) I hope the author will give us Crocker and Dawn story in a future book.

I love the SSI world and look forward to hopefully many more stories in it.

Two characters from a previous book that left such a lasting impression on us diehard fans of the SSI series are given a novella of their own and it was sooo good. If you’re a fan of the series who could forget Interpol agent Dawn Wilson calling CIA agent Sam Crocker a crock of shit. She even comes up with some new names for him in this book.

Dawn and Sam both find themselves wanting a change in their jobs. After the last mission where they both assisted SSI they were offered jobs with them. Dawn is the first to quit hers but Sam is working with SSI on a forced vacation from the CIA to try and locate the DIA traitor who has been a thorn in their side for a while.

As with all the SSI books we get plenty of action and suspense along with hot alpha men and strong kick ass women. I’m so happy the author gave us Dawn and Sam’s story and look forward to seeing whose story is next.

Paranormal Romance. The Prime race join the alliance and Melina comes to the aid of Wulf and the ambassadors when they come under attack. Fated mates. OK

I’ve been really into sci-fi romance lately and Prime Obsession by Monette Michaels is a pretty awesome read if you’re interested in this subgenre. It’s based on the fated mates trope, which I don’t always love, but it really worked for me this time around, because Melina and Wulf probably wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for Wulf’s family seeing her “birthmark”, which the Prime know to be a gemate sign. Her optimal biological match, Wulf, has an identical gemat sign on his body, and the lovely cover folks at Liquid Silver Books have included this detail on the cover, which is pretty cool. You can’t really see Melina’s unless you look closely because it’s above her right hip bone and in the shadows but Wulf’s is pretty obvious since it’s on his chest.

The best part of this book is definitely Melina and Wulf’s relationship. They’re both such alpha personalities and it’s a lot of fun watching them find the balance between being in charge and sharing leadership. Wulf has a lot more trouble with this since he is ultra alpha, in all his growly glory, but Melina also has trouble sitting back and letting Wulf lead at times. They’re both such great soldiers and leaders and this gives their developing relationship a lot of heat.

There is also a ton of heat between the sheets, so this book definitely isn’t for folks who are looking for a more cerebral romance. Sex is a big part of their relationship and Michaels isn’t shy about writing it, or writing about their uber lusty feelings.

I also loved the plotting in Prime Obsession. The book isn’t just about Melina and Wulf coming together. It’s also about them working to uncover a plot to stop the Prime from joining the Alliance and diluting the “pure” bloodlines. There are a lot of layers to this plot and it takes Melina and Wulf on a journey with a lot of twists and turns, which I really appreciated. And it gives the reader an opportunity to see how they function as a team, developing their battle-mate bond and building trust in each other.

My one criticism of Prime Obsession would be that I had trouble keeping all of Wulf’s family’s names straight in the later part of the novel. When there were just a few names to remember towards the start, and everyone was getting decent page time, it was relatively straightforward but we meet a lot more of Wulf’s family in the second half of Prime Obsession and I was a little overwhelmed.

If you’re looking for a romance with spaceships, aliens, and action, you should definitely check out Prime Obsession. The second book in The Prime Chronicles is also available and I’m going to be purchasing it from an e-retailer just as soon as I finish this post!
