This was one of my son's favourite books when he was young. Very simple, but he loved it.

Red is Best is a story about a young, opinionated girl who insists all her favorite things are red. He mother wants her to use the other items that are better for the purpose (even though they're not red): the blue jacket because it's too cold for the red one, the brown mitts because they don't have holes like the red ones, the pink barrettes because they match better than the red. But the little girl is persistent - he loves all her red things. The purpose of this book is to help young readers understand opinions. The title clearly states an opinion and the book provides supports for why the girl has that opinion. The story encourages readers to form their own opinions and have reasons why they have them.

25 months - Apparently a classic book by a Canadian author. I fun color book and I certainly enjoyed the humor of a small child obsessing over everything of one color.

Summary: Kelly loves the color red! The whole book is about Kelly only wanting to wear the color red.

Personal reflection: I understand about having a favorite article of clothing that I always wanted to wear when I was younger.

Class use: Have students talk about their favorite article of clothing.

Some people like green. Some people like blue. But the little girl in this book likes red the best. Her mother tries to convince her to wear her white stockings with her blue dress, but Kelly clains that she can jump higher in her red stockings. Though her mother protests, Kelly also insists on her red boots, red mittens, and her red barrettes. Red paint puts singing in her head and juice in her red cup tastes best. As Kelly says, "I like red, because red is best."

Available in picture book or board book form, this simple story celebrates the childlike love of a favorite color. The illustrations are clean and pop out from the white background. Pale blues and greens are used sparingly, setting the stage for the vibrant red to shine in the spotlight. The text is written from Kelly's perspective and includes the repetitive phrase, "I like my red ____ the best"

Oh, I love this story, I'll try it again when Liam is a little bigger, it is too long for him at the moment.

Red is 3 year old Kelly’s favorite color. She insists on wearing her red stockings, red coat, red gloves and red boots, even though mom insists that her other pairs are more suitable.

The author was inspired by her daughter who wanted to wear red socks with a blue and white dress. The story has simple repetitious language for a pre-schooler to understand and learn the words to recite the story.

Small book about a toddler who prefers red for everything. Easy read, very cute- may be long depending on group

This book does not attempt to explain preferences in reasonable terms, but in the terms of a child. The red mittens are best because they make better snowballs. The red paint puts singing in her head. The juice just tastes better in the red cup. She likes red because red is best - just as simple as that.

And we can see from the pictures that some of these arguments (like the one about the red cup and red pajamas) she wins and others (like the red rainboots for the snow) she simply doesn't. Pretty realistic.

My nieces and I also talk about why her red mitts "have holes in them" or why she "hardly has any red paint left". I'm sure you can work it out :)

This is a simple, engaging book with simple, uncluttered illustrations. Please, check it out!½

I bought the girls yellow rain boots to match a yellow Northeaster hat for rainy days. But red is best. M: "I hate it. Its just about red. Not very interesting."

A delightful story for toddlers and preschoolers. The girl in the story LOVES red, and says "my mother doesn't understand" why she won't drink juice out of a blue cup, or wear the pink ribbons in her hair, or wear the green mittens. Funny for both parents and children - this one will be read many times over.
