This story offers an interesting 'alternative' look at the meaning of Christmas.

Joshua has come from a very religious background and even though he's now a member of a less 'strict' church, he still believes some sort of faith is important. When Joshua meets Jude, even the immediate attraction they both feel can't compensate for Jude's lack of some sort of religious belief. When Joshua finaly understands that Jude does believe, just in a non-religious way, the last stumbling block to a loving relationship is removed.

I liked the fact that this message of non-religious hope was included in the Mistletoe Madness series. It shows that the 'Christmas spirit' is not only not resticted to Christians, but not even tied to any type of traditional religion.… (altro)

This is a shocking story whichever way I look at it. I cannot say too much without giving away the ending, but let me tell you, this is anything but fluffy or romantic. So NOT my usual reading material. And yet - as a story, it is pretty good.

But it isn't just the ending that shocked me. In a way, that even made sense. No, the scariest part about this vision of the very near future is that it sounds just about possible. It may be the worst fears of some of us come true, but I can almost see it happening. The split between the religious right and the more freedom-loving people in the US is so clear now, that it will take only very little to let it become deeper and result in some sort of separation of the 50 states into two fighting camps.

If you're looking for a dark vision of the future which is not entirely far-fetched, if you enjoy stories with a major twist, and if you don't mind a... different ending, you might like this one.… (altro)
