I'm surveying this series on behalf a of a friend for her daughters. the writing is tight and the setting is well done, although some of the language and behavior is decidedly modern (as in late 20th to 21st century). The plot is a bit light but the book is short. I can't put much more without spoiling the story line, so shall just add that since this is a prequel written after the series began I am hoping that some of the events and machinations make more sense when I've read a few in the regular series.

I will say there was a huge potential for plot lines that weren't followed but again.. this may have been done in the regular series later on somehow.

The reason for the 2 stars is that while I thought it was mostly a light enjoyable read it was LIGHT and didn't really go anywhere with plot resolution. I may change this rating as I delve into the regular series.… (altro)
