ABSTRACT:
The idea of performing a special "Measurement Campaign" was realized at the Central Receiver System of the SSPS in Almeria.

The aim was to gain information on both basic data and solar-specific behaviour by concentrated efforts. As time frame the period around fall equinox (design conditions: equinox noon) was chosen.

The objectives relevant to the state of the facility art were
- to record power stair steps and energy production data,
- to investigate the efficiency of the heliostat field,
- to recognize the conditions for cavity receiver losses.

Finally, the Measurement Campaign was thought to be a valuable contribution to an increased understanding of the total plant system and especially of the new items heliostats and receiver.

ABSTRACT:
This is a description of the design work undertaken for the Small Community Experiment to modify the PKI Square Dish in order for it to be able to power a Barber Nichols Organic Rankine Turbine/Alternator. Task 1, the construction of a scale model was completed prior to the contract and is not included in this report.

ABSTRACT:
The predominant objective for the POW - 1984 is to collect and evaluate performance and loss data, and to evaluate proposed improvements (Optimization) to support completion of the committed deliverables; those being the reports of the CRS and DCS, as recommended by the TOAB and accepted at the twenty-fourth Executive Committee Meeting, 9 December 1983.

ABSTRACT:
In 1985, the Stage 3 of the SSPS Project began. In this stage different tasks were set up, being Tasks I and II the ones related to the PTSA. Task I consisted of the O + M of the Project SSPS facilities in Almeria, while Task II -"Technical Improvements" - deals with new projects intended to diversify the works and experiments carried out up to then. This report shows the activities related to Task I during the two years in which Annex I of the Implementing Agreement, that is, 1985 and 1986, when CIEMAT-IER has been the Operating Agent of the SSPS Project for Tasks I and II. Annex I ended on January, 1st, 1987, after the process of the transference to Spain of all the facilities of the SSPS Project, a process which culminated in the XXXII E.C. Meeting held in Madrid on October, 16th, 1986. With the transference of the SSPS Project facilities to Spain, a new phase for the PTSA has begun, and the PTSA has become a big experimentation and and test center for all kinds of applications of solar thermal energy.

ABSTRACT:
The Central Receiver System (CRS) solar power plant is one of the two Small Solar Power Systems (SSPS) promoted by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the generation of electrical power by the conversion of direct solar radiation (insolation) into thermal energy, and then, by conventional methods, into electrical power. It has been installed near Tabernas (Almeria-Spain)

ABSTRACT:
Each of the heliostats forming the mirror field of a solar thermal power plant with central tower will generate an image of the sun on the entrance of the central radiation receiver. The quantitative determination of the integral power within this image and its distribution is necessary to check the performance of the mirror array as well as the efficiency of the receiver and the subsequent thermodynamic process. At the solar power plant built by the IEA near Almeria (Spain), a part of this problem is to be solved by viewing the brightness of white surface elements on a movable traverse scanning the image in the entrance area of the receiver cavity.

ABSTRACT:
One of the objectives of this "SSPS workshop on Functional and Performance Characteristics of Solar Thermal Pilot Plants" carried out in September 1981 in Almeria, Spain, was to initiate this process. Concerning the CRS-type-plants, the workshop was also considered as part of the preparation for the workshop which will take place in the USA in autumn 1982.

ABSTRACT:
The main objects of the Small Solar Power Systems Project (SSPS) of the International Energy Agency. Paris (IEA) are detailed studies and demonstrations of the utilization of solar energy for power generation, in the interconnected grid as well as in isolated operation. Two different concepts of solar energy conversion have been considered in this project: the "solar farm" and the "solar tower". The object is to compare both concepts for the same design conditions, under the same ambient conditions for operation and evaluation by the same team.

ABSTRACT:
This third quarterly status report on the Test and Operation (T+O) Phase of the SSPS Project, is submitted to the 20th meeting of the Executive Committee. The report summarizes data collected from routine operation, for which the Compaffia Sevillana de Electricidad (Sevillana) is responsible, and it also gives an overview on data evalua-tion, performed mainly bathe Interna-tional Test and Evaluation Team (ITET).

ABSTRACT:
This report is a first-level study of the feasibility of developing a 1.5-MW solar power plant in Russia near the city of Kislovodsk. Kislovodsk is a resort and retirement region located in European Russia between the Black and Caspian seas. The solar resource in this area, while not outstanding, is certainly good enough to support such a power plant. The proposed plant comprises three separate technologies including 500 kWe of dual dish/Stirling systems, 1 MWe of concentrating photovoltaics that use reflecting trough collectors, and hot water provided from cooling of the photovoltaic and Stirling generators and by additional trough collectors. The output of the plant is estimated to be about 1.6 GWhr of electrical energy and 10.3 MWhrs of thermal energy annually.

ABSTRACT:
This paper is the Construction Experience Report for the Central Receiver System (CRS) of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Small Solar Power Station (SSPS) from 1977 to 1981. The objectives and goals is to examine the feasibility of solar thermal power generation, compare CRS with DCS concept, determine capabilities/reliabilies and costs, team as much as possible (know-how and experience), and after construction, run the plant for 2 years.
