3 stars for a repetitive story with some cute differences. While they mention the movie in the story, there are a lot of similarities that make me not earn for a longer version. This may be because I recently watched the movie with one of my daughters, or because it just wasn’t interesting enough to make me want to read hundreds of pages. It was well written, an author, I would explore, and cute in its own way. ( )

With Any Luck is the fifth book in the Improbable Meet-Cute series and to me it didn’t really have a meet-cute. That’s not a deal breaker for me but it was still a bit perplexing to try to work out who was going to be the meet-cute and when!

Audrey Love is lucky in most trivial things – green lights, finding coins on the ground – but unlucky when it comes to love. Whoever she kisses goes on to find their soul mate the following day and poor Audrey is left behind. The story over a mere 43 pages goes into the backstory of her meeting Rhett at university and now she’s his best maid at his wedding to a TV star. The bachelor party gets raucous and Rhett is having doubts about the big day and then is nowhere to be found on the wedding day. Cue the bride’s man of honour, Theo, to start a search party with Audrey. The problem is Audrey remembers kissing someone last night and now Rhett’s disappeared…What makes things more complex is that Theo and Audrey have a history too but it isn’t fully revealed, just mentioned which acted as a red herring for me. I honestly didn’t know who Audrey was going to end up with – Rhett or Theo. She had more chemistry with Rhett and Theo was lurking in the background like the ‘good guy’ but he didn’t come across as particularly special.

This is my first time reading Poston’s writing, she knows how to get a lot of information across and set the scene. But I felt that the execution was too rushed. It’s a great idea for the start and finale of a novel, but as a short story it feels too rushed. I felt like Audrey’s emotions just switched really quickly, even though there was no cue that she was into one guy more than the other. It’s not really memorable for me in terms of the content. It could have been more fun if fleshed out a bit more.

Read this, forgot to write the review and by the time I remembered, I couldn't really remember anything about the story. Refreshed my memory and it was an ok story, but didn't obviously make a lasting impression. ( )

I was recommended Ashley Poston by a friend and I fell in love with the stories and writing. So naturally I had to read this one first in the collection. Each of the books is a Valentine's themed stand-alone romance. Audrey has basically resigned herself to never finding love because of the family curse. Everyone she kisses quickly finds their true love. Her best friend asks her to be the best man in his wedding and she readily agrees... and then learns the maid of honor is the bride's best guy friend, who she had a one night stand with. After a drunken bachelor party... it's hours til the wedding begins and Audrey and Rhett are on a mission to uncover what happened last night... and where exactly the grooom is. Poston does a phenomenal job of giving you this adorable story in under 50 pages. It's cute, quirky, and hilarious. Wedding shenanigans galore to be had. I think this is one of those perfect sweet little pallete cleansers everyone needs. ( )
