Reading The Aftermath made me remember fondly why I so loved The Hurricane. Con and Em are so damaged yet so incredibly dedicated to rising above. The amazing thing about it all? It doesn't come off as cheesy or make me roll my eyes. Overcoming their crappy childhood could be super sappy and annoying. Thats how it comes off when some authors write. The Aftermath (and The Hurricane for that matter) comes off as real, raw, and totally engaging. You get so sucked in to this story. I cried for Em. I felt Con's desperation. Its real and its everything I want in a book that has 'the feels'. So many books try to get what RJ Prescott has done: emotion without over doing it. This book is flawless! I WAS WRONG!!!
The book is written from Con's POV so we see his insecurities about Em being too good for him and it is adorable. The introduction of a manager is a clever and hilarious move, lots from the rest of the gang and of course the trial and 'end' of Frank.
It is a fantastic read, pulls at the heart strings and strengthens your faith in loyalty and true love. ( )
