A little girl, Nina, catches a firefly to replace her night-light when the electricity goes out - but eventually, the firefly's light starts to dim also, and she realizes she needs to release it back outside. ( )

The story begins with a young girl named Nina who is scared of the dark. She turns on a nightlight in her room to help her sleep, but one night the electricity went out. She noticed many scary shadows throughout her house which caused her to become frightened and not be able to sleep. She saw a soft yellow glow through her window and realized there were fireflies. She went outside and caught one in a jar and brought it inside to have a golden glowing nightlight. She could not fall asleep so she did multiple things with the firefly, such as read books, play with dolls, and create shadows. Throughout her time with the firefly she realized that the fireflies light was becoming dim. She tried multiple things to make the firefly become bright gain, but nothing worked. She then realized that she needed to take it outside and let it out of the jar The firefly flew up towards all the other fireflies in the tree and shined brightly. She went back inside and opened up her window in order for the soft light from the fireflies to glow inside. ( )
