The second collection of the reprints of the Dell "Pogo" comic books. This volume includes the first appearance of Porky Pine, although he is nearly unrecognizable here. All the characters undergo noticeable evolution throughout this collection, with Albert still very alligatorish in his predatory inclinations toward the other swamp denizens, eventually becoming a (generally) trustworthy boon companion. The book concludes with an earlier look at the swamp when the human boy Bumbazine was a character. Eventually he was dropped from the books because, being human, he just wasn't as believable as the other swamp denizens. These are funny, whimsical stories, with ample hints of the greatness that would later characterize the comic strip. ( )
