A historical fiction novel based around the period when Beethoven was writing some of his most famous pieces including 'Ode to Joy' and 'Moonlight Sonata'.
He is mostly deaf and struggles with his creations and into his world walks a child one day, also at odds with her world. They slowly fill a need in the other that has been long missing, a friend, and this unusual friendship helps them to see the emotions and words in music that is often missed by others.
He struggles with his genius, with his confidence, and with his visions, while she struggles in a world that views her as odd, that teases her and where she has to cope with a sick mother and a weak father.
This is such a sweet story, I couldn't put it down and it not only focuses on music but also on people that don't fit in with society. A must read for all ages. ( )
