There have been several disasters on the news today and yesterday.

There were "out-of-season" tornadoes in the area around Oklahoma City. See http://www.koco.com/cnn-news/18683254/detail.html.

Major story on the hotel fire in China (along with links to pictures and video) is at http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/02/09/china.hotel.fire/index.html?iref=new.... Additional CNN search results are at http://search.cnn.com/search.jsp?query=China%20%22Hotel%20Fire%22&type=web&a....

Info on the quake off the Peruvian coast is at http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/02/09/peru.earthquake/index.html?iref=new....

Fortunately, none of these disasters seem to have resulted in great loss of life, although it's hard to be certain about the info from China.

Be sure to post if you find additional links or info.

The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program is a good site to watch for recent seismic activity.

And don't forget the ongoing orange alert at Alaska's Redoubt Volcano, which can be monitored at the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
