I'm putting together an order for my school library that will include a copy of Disasters, Accidents, and Crises in American History : a Reference Guide to the Nation's Most Catastrophic Events.
I think it will include info on some disasters I'm not familiar with. One of the reviews I read for the book mentions that it includes an article on the 1948 Donora, PA smog tragedy. I have a book on the 1952 smog disaster in London: Killer Smog by William Wise, but I can't remember ever reading about the 1948 Donora incident.

Once again, the Internets to the rescue.
Wikipedia has a brief report on the Donora smog.
The PA State Archives has a more detailed report, including a copy of a letter written to the governor about conditions in the town.
The PA Department of Environmental protection has a series of commemorative articles written in 1998, on the 50th anniversary of the smog disaster.
And this New York Times report in November 2008: Unveiling a Museum, a Pennsylvania Town Remembers the Smog That Killed 20.
