Read this as a teen so late 80's/early 90's.

A young girl called Bunny Larabee hates her name and wishes she had a normal name like her friend Emily (Emily's last name is Boots and she has infant twin brother and sister). I think Bunny pretends to be a clown for the twins birthday party.

Bunny has a sister named Star (short for Starship) who is away at college and a younger brother named Shad (short for Shadbush).

Bunny is tall and plays basketball at school for a team and she has a grandmother who lives in Toronto and supports the Blue Jays. The grandmother has a stroke while Bunny and Shad are visiting and has to come live with them in the USA.

Bunny goes to a concert and meets an older boy. Because of her height he thinks she is older than 14 (I think he is 16 or maybe even 18). She likes him but thinks he won't like her if he knows her name and age so she lies and says she is 16 and called Emily. She has borrowed some earrings from her mum that are in a native American style.

They meet up for an ice-cream (gelatto I think they called it) and when Emily finds out Bunny has used her name they argue but eventually make up and when Emily meets the boy she says her name is Bunny.

On the cover of the copy I read they had two girls with dark hair posing on a strip of four passport size photo's from a machine, pulling faces.

I can remember all this, just not the name or even if I have asked about this book before.

A very late thank you for finding this for me.

I just found a copy of this on amazon, the same edition I had, and it seems that mine was called A Name Like Bunny but it is the same book.
