Winterthorne seemed to be a old rich guy and not able to move furniture so he’s not a suspect but Begbie, his renter, could inadvertently let the missing girl in.

I’m holding my judgment about Winterthorne until we’ve seen more of him. There is a link to Dura (Middle East?) amongst his memorabilia which might link to the girl in the opening chapter.

I think that Winterthorne may know more than he is saying; his relationship with his tenant needs looking into.

I was surprised McLean didn’t look more closely into how Winterthorne had managed to return to his house without getting the attention of whoever was supposed to be guarding the close.

I don’t see Winterthorne as the killer but it doesn’t mean he might not be connected to things. Strange how he got back in the house without being seen.
