Read any books that were made into a movie? How about a book that you think SHOULD be made into a movie? Tell us about it.

Having binged seasons 22-23 of Midsomer Murders on Acorn, I noticed fortuitously that the first novel in the Inspector Barnaby series by Caroline Graham, The Killings at Badger's Drift, was on one of the Kindle daily deals @1.99, so, I was able to transition from video to biblio this Monday. Barnaby's Sergeant Troy in the novel does not resemble any of the sergeants in the video series, however, and shares certain macho tendencies with Inspector Dalgliesh's DS Masterson in the Acorn series. I don't recall Masterson from the P.D. James novels, so I'm wondering whether the Acorn writers borrowed the "type" from Graham. Fair's fair, though, since Graham borrows explicitly from Ford's Tis Pity She's a Whore for the clue to her mystery. So, if video leads to novel, novel leads to play, which I now need to look up. I should point out that the novel is more gory than the TV series, though Graham's Dickensian portrait of the "birdwatcher" town gossip I found more amusing than anything I've seen in the series. Still, it appears that generally the creators of the series did capture the mood of the novel.

>2 featherbear: Enjoy. Midsomer Murders was one of my favorites. I never read any of the books. I'll have to look for their availability.

The Amityville Horror
Jay Anson
4/5 stars
In 1975 the Lutz family has moved to Amityville, New York because of George Lutz's new job. However, things go terribly wrong when they moved in. Strange and horrible things were happening in the house. They were never informed that the son of the previous family, Ronald J. DeFeo Jr. killed his family. As much as they tried to live there, they eventually had to move out. What a fascinating story. Several film versions were made of the events. I had seen the movie years ago and I think it is time for a re-watch!
