TIFFIN 2023

As some of you have understood, I had to step back from posting in many groups because I was caring for a very elderly disabled mother. Mom passed this October in her 103rd year, so I am making an effort to re-engage with humanity again. I did work on several quilts, so will post photos of those below. My sock knitting ground to a halt, however. Multiple skeins of yarn are calling to me, so I hope to make time for more of those, particularly when one lad keeps showing up with large holes in the socks I've made for him.

After a nudge from Lois and Laura, I'm venturing back!

A quilt for Himself:

A wedding quilt for my niece and her husband, a year late getting to them because of pandemic restrictions (I don't seem to be able to reduce the size without distortion, sorry):

My niece had a beautiful baby girl this past April, so I had the fun of making a baby quilt with English Hedgerow fabric featuring wonderful animals:

My DIL wanted a green and purple quilt, so she got one! The theme is sea turtles: I fussy cut a couple of hundred 2" sea turtles for this.

Just noticed it's not on the bed straight. Oh well.

Thanks, Laura. Although I can't promise regular attendance, it will be nice to get stimulus and ideas from everyone's posts here.

As another quilter, I love your choices of fabric for these quilts. Looking forward to seeing what else you do.

The quilts are all gorgeous, and I especially like the floral one (the wedding one). So pretty.

Welcome back to the group!

Welcome back, Tui. As you know, I love your quilts. At this point, they are "so you"! (or maybe 'sew you'?!)

Thanks, Lori!
Thanks, dudes. I'm a big fan of Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs, especially the latter.
Thanks, Paws. I dug deep into my stash for that one.
Thanks, Lois. You're the one who got me going on quilting when I retired!

Those are beautiful quilts. Not difficult at all to spot the Kaffe Fassett fabrics, so gorgeous.

>3 tiffin: I remember seeing lovely sea fabrics on the Need'l Love website a few years ago, but can't imagine that amount of fussing cutting. It certainly looks worth it though.

I saw that you live in Canada, but didn't see where. Judging by your CanLit collection, I'm going to guess ON outside the GTHA, or prairies. It's okay if you don't want to get specific.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Hi SassyLassy. Not far enough outside the GTA! It keeps creeping this way. A lovely area however: the Kawartha Lakes district. I hear you hail from one of my favourite parts of Canada. I know the South Shore area quite well, as well as Cape Breton.

I have a bunch of Kaffe Fassett fabrics that I have plans for this year. I'm not usually very good at mixing bunches of prints together, but I've seen a couple of quilts made with his fabric that I like. I follow a blogger from Portland who uses a lot of Kaffe and Philip Jacobs and I love what she does.

Thanks, Micky. I have a wicked awful stash that I have to cut down--I suspect I like collecting fabric more than doing something with it.

>1 tiffin: Condolences on the loss of your dear mother. I lost mine in November, at the age of 98. My "bedside" craft during her last days was a relatively mindless mitered-square lap robe made of scrap yarn from her stash. I have three squares and the border left to do.

Unlike other bedside knitting that I had to give away after the loved one passed, this one is actually giving me comfort.

I'm sorry for your loss too, Lynda. I had to sit very close to Mom so that I could speak into her left ear as she had lost most of her hearing, so I couldn't do any handiwork when I was with her.
