Babel-17?

Why isn't Babel-17 listed on the centipede press website? Is it already sold out? Was it only for subscribers or something?

>1 the2armedman: I believe unsigned copies are still available. It was not limited to subscribers--very few Centipede books are (although I think purchasers of the previous Delaney volume bought almost all the signed copies, leaving only a handful of those available for general sale). Check the October 16th newsletter for the link.

>2 JacobHolt: I see. I only just discovered Centipede press, so I only have last Sunday's newsletter. It's good to know that there are still unsigned copies left. I know that the links are not supposed to be shared, so I'll try to ask Jerad if he would sent me a link. Thank you!

So I just bought a copy of Babel-17. I'm a bit confused about what I'm getting, though. In the description it says, "Limited to 300 signed and numbered copies and 175 unsigned copies." However, under pricing it says, "Babel-17 with Empire Star $185. Un-numbered copies with a sheet signed by Samuel R. Delany laid in." And in the paypal receipt it says, "Babel-17 un-numbered but signed."

Does this mean I'm actually getting a signed copy, but it's not numbered? I don't really understand what it means by "sheet signed by Samuel R. Delany laid in." Does that mean it's a separate page from the book or something? Is there anyone out there who got this version who can help me?

>4 the2armedman: I assume it's an extra sheet of paper with a Delany signature, not a page that is actually part of the book.

Signed means a numbered page with all collaborator sigs on it.

>4 the2armedman: When you see the term "laid in," that typically means it's a detached sheet (or sometimes a card) that's literally just slid into the already-bound book by hand. So, in this case, it was a nice, unexpected bonus for those who purchased "unsigned" copies, especially since My. Delany is a significant figure in SF and is 80 years old.

Ahh, okay, I think I understand now. Thank you!

As previously noted, apparently Jared included signed sheets for the non-numbered editions of Babel-17. A very nice gift for those that missed on the numbered edition! Here is a pic of what the sheet looks like for anyone interested -

For those that own the signed Nova... or are looking for a copy, some big news -

I've always pictured Idris Elba as Lorq Von Ray when I've read Nova, I think he'd be an awesome choice for the role. Looking forward to seeing what they've got in store for this.
