New edition to match last years LoTR release. I have pre-ordered.

Last years LoTR edition:
ISBN: 978-0008537906
For the first time ever, a beautiful slipcased edition of the forerunner to The Lord of the Rings, illustrated throughout in colour by J.R.R. Tolkien himself, with the complete text printed in two colours and with many bonus features unique to this edition.
Last years LoTR edition:

We haven’t had a new ‘deluxe’ Tolkien book for, ooh, at least 3 months!

>3 Uppernorwood: It's a guaranteed seller. At least all the releases have been notably different, and this is the first one recently to hit the sweet spot for what I want in a gift edition.

Bonded or real leather?
Sewn signatures?
Bonded or real leather?
Sewn signatures?

What do you think about Tolkien's own illustrations? For me, they really convey the spirit of his work and they still leave much to the imagination. I wish Folio would publish Tolkien's work with these illustrations.

The colophon on the 2021 HarperCollins LOTR single-volume illustrated de luxe slipcased edition makes no mention of leather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gs8tqCzucw&t=8m2s
This post also confirms a failed 'smell test': https://www.librarything.com/topic/330877#7638019
Genuine goatskin (or any animal hide) would definitely be mentioned.

The signatures on the 2021 LOTR are barely visible through the gilt edges in these videos:

I hope that Houghton Mifflin produces an illustrated deluxe edition of The Hobbit in order to complement these editions of LOTR and The Silmarillion.

>8 mr.philistine: I pre-ordered it from Book Depository and received it a few days ago, looks great next to LotR. Still on sale there too, along with a lot of other Tolkien hardbacks.
