Breaking news, "Salman Rushdie, whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked and apparently stabbed in the neck Friday by a man who rushed the stage as the author was about to give a lecture in western New York."

Ironically, "Rushdie and moderator Henry Reese were set to discuss "the United States as asylum for writers and other artists in exile and as a home for freedom of creative expression.""

>1 Cecrow: Horrible news.

Ebooks of several of his books are currently on sale in the US, including The Satanic Verses.

"Agent says Satanic Verses author has been left with damage to liver, nerves and may lose an eye."

If you want to show your support for Rushdie and freedom of speech and expression, consider adding him to your reading list. Joseph Anton is his memoir about the publication of Satanic Verses and his life from then up to 2012.

What people who do these attacks forget is that it is big advertising for the person they are against.

Details from his agent about the injuries that Rushdie sustained. It's going to interfere with his further writing. Can't imagine what's been going through his head since this happened, hopefully he's been able to maintain his outlook but this has got to be tough.
