Q4 2022 Nominations and Voting

Let's try this again:

The usual rules apply:
- Nominate any author you would like to read (with the exception of the last 24 authors who were selected: the list is here: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/Monthly_Author_Reads). We probably should allow the first 2 but let's keep it like that for now :)
- Repeated authors are ok (as long as they are not one of the last 24).
- You can nominate as many authors as you want and you can add more nominations at any time
- If someone already nominated an author you want to read, you can second, third (and so on) or just mention them again
- An author gets a point for every vote (nomination or seconding and so on)
- The author with the most votes is our October author, the second one gets November, the third one our December.
- In case of a tie, we just continue filling the months (no point doing second rounds I think - if there are enough people wanting the authors, we may as well read them).

Deadline: 15 September 2022

That gives only 15 days lead time for the October author but with the summer/winter going on, people are not around so a longer nomination window makes sense...

PS: I will run a running total so please don't edit your old messages - just add new ones when you want to add (or remove) someone to/from your list of nominees.

PS2: If we have the same issue as last time, we will just fill the schedule with the top authors - even if they have a single vote... :)

Threads are up:
https://www.librarything.com/topic/344625: Sebastian Barry
https://www.librarything.com/topic/344626: Luis Alberto Urrea
https://www.librarything.com/topic/344627: J. G. Farrell

Stop by to share your plans, what you had read before and so on. And make sure you are around at some point in November (to vote for next year's first 3 authors - I will try to have the thread as early as possible in November and it will be up for the month.

PS: I am going to update the wiki in a bit.

>9 AnnieMod: Thanks for taking all the trouble to keep us going, and for setting up the threads. Life has been getting in the way of my reading, but I hope to do better now that autumn is here, and the evenings are getting longer.

Missed the choosing, but wanted to put this out for next time perhaps One of my favorite writers is Elizabeth Von Armin Most people know her from enchanted april, but she has more lovely less known books. Elizabeth and her German garden, vera, and a really delightful christopher and columbus are just a sample . are you voting in December, or January?

>11 cindydavid4: As mentioned in >9 AnnieMod:, we are voting in November for January-March 2023 - that allows a full month of voting followed by a full month for people to secure books for the first month of the quarter. Unless I get distracted (which I do occasionally, that's pretty much the usual pattern of voting. :)

von Arnim was one of the first authors in the group - way back in November 2009: https://www.librarything.com/topic/76189

Which makes her eligible for the next vote (by 10+ years) so if enough people support, she may be one of the next batch of the authors.

>13 cindydavid4: No worries - I was sure I mentioned it so I went and looked.

It is more of “again” than “still” with von Arnim. :) Authors we had discussed in the last 24 months are out - makes us try new authors. Thus the 10+ years - she had been eligible since late 2011. :)
