It seems the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has most of Einstein's books, and they're cataloged.

Finding aid: http://www.alberteinstein.info/finding_aid.html
The books themselves, I think: http://hufind.huji.ac.il/Search/Results?lookfor=&type=AllFields&filter%5...

A good flash-mob, no?

That search picks up the "by and about" as well as the "owned by", there's quite a bit published after 1955.

The finding aid says they're both in there. We need to figure out how to separate!

this sounds interesting

Well, the difference is on each record:

This is his private library:

http://hufind.huji.ac.il/Record/HUJ000028853
Call Number: BF 121 C36 Collection: Private Collection Non_circulating Available

And this is the research collection:

http://hufind.huji.ac.il/Record/HUJ000028741
"Call Number: Q 125 G49 Collection: Research Library Non_circulating Available"

I can't find a way to screen it out—the keyword search does not extend to collection.

I think we use this:
http://hufind.huji.ac.il/Search/Results?lookfor=&type=AllFields&filter%5...

That's sorted by date. And we add everything that is "Collection: Private Collection."

NB - These *should* all be available through the Add books source "Israel Union List," since it looks like that includes Hebrew University (I spot-checked a couple and they were there).

I think we can do this.

Jbd1, any objections?

I would think the way to do it would be to:

* March down the list in that order, clicking to get detail
* Look to see if it was in the right collection
* Add from Israel Union List
* Link all pages to their detail page on the OPAC

Looks like, using that link above and only adding the "Private Collection" label, it should be perfectly doable; everything after 1955 can be eliminated, so that gets you up through about page 132 of those results (I don't know how much "Research Library" stuff shows up before then; there may be some).

Maybe add a year or two, since he might have received a pre-publication copy of a book.

I did a spot check. It's about 75% private library in random segments.

Isn't there any way you could do a bulk import from the Israel Union List including the field with the "private collection" label in it?

Unfortunately Israel Union List does not seem to be searchable by that, nor does it include that data in their MARC records.

Okay, so I think we break it up by pages.

It's a pretty big nut to chew, though, with fairly little… discretion or difficulty.

>14 ccatalfo: The two phrases you need are in the MARC tags. Example:

PST 0 |0| Z30 |1| 000028853000020 |b| EN1 |c| EPR |o| BOOK |d| 86 |y| 00001 |f| N |r| HUJ60-000209890 |n| 0 |h| BF 121 C36 |3| Book |4| Einstein Archives |5| Private Collection |6| Non-circulating

Unfortunately, that's the holding record. Even worse, the exact thing you should be searching for "EINHOM" is also in the holdings records. I've tried searching the ALEPH opac instead of the Vufind layer. ARGH!! Why doesn't ALEPH allow blank searches?! And why doesn HUJI have the CCL search available in the opac!?

Yeah, the MARC that's returned from Israeli Union doesn't have that.
