Anne Rice fans Message Board

Ok, new members can start by introducing yourselves and telling for example what Anne Rice books have you read so far, what you own and which one was your favourite.

I've read Anne Rice about six months, I think. So I'm fairly new to her works and have read Pandora, Interview with the Vampire, Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned and Tale of the Body Thief. The rest I'm probably going to buy via Internet because they are not available in the libraries. My goal is to collect all the books though. Currently I own only Pandora. My favourite was Interview with the Vampire, I loved the way Louis told his story, very beautiful.

I've pretty much read all of her work. My favorites would probably be Tale of the Body Thief, Taltos, The Mayfair Witches, Lasher. I think she comes up with great characters and plot, but gets forgetful as to character's timelines. I've been aware of a few inconsist timelines. BUT not gonna stop me from reading.

I've heard there are some confusion about some things, for example someone said that Lestat's torn eye changes from left to right (or from right to left, don't remember)... But I don't see any reason either to stop reading, because the writing style is superb and characters are well created.

I've been reading her stuff for about 10 years now. I'm partial to the first few Vampire Chronicles. Of her non-series novels, I think Violin is my favorite. I just finished the Mayfair series and was blown away.

I know that since her husband's death a few year ago she's gotten religious, hence her latest novel on Christ.

I'm a little disappointed in her later Vampire Chronicles. Some of them have gotten a little silly. But I'm not giving up on the gal.

Now why on earth has this poor topic been left to wither? anyways, i own 15 anne rice novels, of which i still have to read a few, ive imported three very rare hard covers with parchment paper pages, printed and bound in pennsylvania, worth quite an amount from a girl in the canary islands. i myself are from south africa, so thats a long way for 3 books of rare note to travel, but most definately worth it. so yeh, favourites? Blackwood Farm, Blood & Gold. still have to read about 5 of the ones i already own. Still Need a couple books to complete my collection. Thinking about bidding on a signed hardcover copy of lasher at ebay....hhhhmmm.... Worth it or not?

I'm currently reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. So far I have read: Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, The Tale of The Body Thief and Blood and Gold. I intend to purchase Memnoch the Devil when I get my next paycheque.
My favourate so far has been Tale of the Body thief. I wont go into the why as not to spoil it, But the vulnerability of Lestat makes this a truly amazing read. I love the Vampire Chronicles. You truly get to know the characters for what they are. I reccomend this series to anyone.
I will deffinately be Reading her other titles in between. Ill keep you all posted on my future experiences with Anne Rice's work.

I' read her work extensively a few years ago, but then got a bit freaked out and gave them to a charity shop (silly me!) I never really got into the mayfair chronicles, but enjoyed the vampires (or at least the earlier ones). I didn't enjoy Memnoch the Devil at all.
My favourite still has to be The Vampire Lestat.
The films are usually dire though unfortunately.

Well I felt compelled to write a tiny little review of Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice.

I just finished it (Thank God)

I absolutely LOVED everything up until Memnock (fell asleep during Lestat), But everything, and I mean everything she's written on the Chronicles I completely enjoyed, sitting glued to my seat and finishing most of them in one siting (and then I read them again, and again, and I made a play about one of them). I'd since moved on to other stuff in my life and was pleasantly surprised when I saw Blackwood Farm Available for the first time in Hardcover. Trapped by the first chapter, and then subsequently tortured to death by endless dialogue of Quinn, telling me everything in such lush vivid detail I could not stand it! I was seduced by the beauty of the language and bored to tears by its never ending, sometimes senseless rant and recounts of what happened in the past. It reminded me of sitting in my great grandmothers home in Franklin Louisiana(pop. 1000) back in were you had to sit and listen to her tell her story. Good stories they were, she was over a hundred, and I learned a lot from listening to her. I am not saying that I actually enjoyed every minute of her crying voice, crakling out the details of one family member after another. It made me restless and afraid to sit with her for more than 10 minutes after that.

I must have, during my departure from Anne for a few years, gotten use to "The page turner" all books that were great stories but seemed to keep everything moving along with varying textures and pacing. But reading Blackwood Farm was like being stuck waist deep in a morass pit of molasses while mosquitoes buzzed above my head.

I do so LOVE Anne's writing and in this book I especially loved SOME of the dialogs and language of Quinn and all his (oh so) familiar interactions with strange things....(more later)

I felt something was missing. The book felt more like an "I have to" rather than an "I want to".

Baaah...

I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and I own and have read the entire series, as well as the Mayfair Witches trilogy. I also own Vittorio the Vampire, Pandora, Violin, and Servant of the Bones, but have yet to read them.

Of the Vampire Chronicles, my favorite by far is Memnoch the Devil. Never in my life has a novel affected me so strongly––it's the only book ever to have me sobbing out loud.

Kevwin, I agree with you about Lestat's vulnerability in The Tale of the Body Thief. And if you liked that, you'll love Memnoch the Devil.

Random observation: Queen of the Damned is a lot more frightening the second time through...

Hi--new member as of this month.

I read Interview With The Vampire back in 1977 (bought at the airport on the way to visit my brother in Florida) and read the others as they came out, so I've been a fan for years. Not a huge fan of the Mayfair series, though I have read them as well. I loved Cry To Heaven and Feast of All Saints as well. Once Ms. Rice hit Memnoch The Devil my interest began to wane, though I did like The Vampire Armand.

I quite understand Ms. Rice's metamorphosis and the reflection therein in her novels--they are her worls, after all, but I became disenchanted after a while, because I felt that some of the characters had changed to the point of being unrecognizable. I lost interest in the later novels (Merrick, Blood & Gold, Blackwood Farms), but I still like to discuss the early VC novels: I have not lost my initial love and fascination with Lestat and Louis.

I have read all of the Mayfair Witch books, and I think I have fallen in love with Michael!!! As far as the Vampire books go, I've read through the Body Snatcher (in order of release). Her erotica under her pseudonames are by far the best thing I have ever read!!

Does anyone still read Anne Rice after she
decided to stop wiritng her Vampire Novels
and devote the rest of her efforts to writing
the fictional life of Jesus Christ. I WAS a
Anne Rice fan until the day I heard on the
News she decided to stop writing her Horror
Novels and start her only about the fictional
life of Jesus Christ. I still have copies of her
MayFair Witches Trilogy, New Vampire
Series and of course The Vampire Chronicles
Series on my shelves at home in my book cases.
I did wind up getting the first book in her life
of Jesus Chirst Series and have never even
begun to read it. She lost me as a fan forever
unless she decides to one day pick up where
she left off at The Vampire Chronicles.
