I'm planning to read the Landmark edition this year and would be happy to have company, which I found helpful when reading Herodotus in 2010. The Landmark edition has extensive introductory materials and numerous appendices, and the history is divided into eight books, so I'm thinking of a 10-month read starting in January.

I have the Landmark edition as well, and I think a 10 month read works out nicely.

I'm prepared! Also with the Landmark edition. I thought I had a copy somewhere, but I couldn't find it, so I ordered the Landmark when I had a 15% off coupon.

I'd like to read it. I don't do well with group reads but I'm willing to give it a try. Sigh.

(I think I have that Landmark edition of the book around here somewhere.)

I'm sure it's more than 500 pages long so it'd also count for my 11 in 11 chunkster category, too.

I have an older edition without the supplementary material but the translator is Richard Crawley. I'll start by looking up some of the 'extras' and then try to read along with everyone else.

>2 jfetting:-5 Great, I was afraid I might have to read it alone, and I might not have the drive without the nudge of a group.

Linda, how don't you do well with group reads?

#6 I have good intentions but then don't keep at it.

It's actually not the group reads. I do quite well reading with the Missouri Readers, for instance. It's the longer-term nature, combined with books I want to read but aren't my highest priority.

I would like to do this. I'm just starting to lay out plans for 2011 so I hope I am not being too optimistic. But I know that a group read is the best way for me to read this book! And the speed works for me, if I get ahead fine, but a book a month sounds manageable in with all the other reading I know I'll do.

I'm planning to read it, just haven't set up my challenge thread yet.

I also have the Landmark edition and would like to join in. I'm trying to be better about reading non-fiction this year, and I stand a much better shot at this if it's spread over 10 months.

I got the Landmark edition for Christmas, so I would be thrilled to do this group read! I'm new to this, so bear with me. Will all the info on it be posted on this thread then?
