La mia biblioteca
The Carraway Library was named in honor of Gertrude Sprague Carraway (1896-1993) who led the effort to restore Tryon Palace and served as its first director. For over forty years, the Carraway Library has been a resource for Tryon Palace staff, community members and visiting researchers.

With over 4,500 titles and nearly 800 rare books, in addition to a body of institutional archives, manuscript collections, oral histories and photographs, the Carraway Library’s collections shed new light on the past and inform the future. Topics include regional and national history, fine and decorative arts, material culture, horticulture, architecture and subjects related to the field of public history.

If you have a research request or would like to use the Gertrude S. Carraway Research Library, please call (252) 639-3537.
