I read this book in one sitting as I couldn't put it down! What amazing parents Roger and Patty are. I don't think I could have made it with Tyler as long as they did, without hurting him or myself. It's amazinging how well Tyler is doing now, after such a horrific childhood. But they persevered, all of them, and never gave up. Jonathan's death was heart-wrenching and Trevor's life after his accident was so sad. But what a wonderful young man he is, as was Jonathan.

I adopted my two children from Guatemala (my daughter is half Salvadoran) and don't think I could have handled problems like Tyler had. My children are now 26 and 30, and I am so thankful that they are doing well.

I really felt for Patty and her two other sons as Tyler acted out, and I feared for their safety. Finally moving him into the residential facility was a god-send for the whole family. I wonder what his early life in the Ukraine was really like, as I think the facade the orphanage presented was just a cover. I wonder if they ever told their adoption facilitator, Peter, about their problems with Tyler? I have heard numerous horror stories about kids adopted from Russia and wonder if it's still the same today?

The only thing that "bothered" me about the book were the few typos and saying draw instead of drawer! And I wanted to see family pictures!

I recommend this book, especially to adoptive families.… (altro)
