In book one in the Sanctuary series, Steve “Smoke” Tannen is looking for something to do, to believe in, since retiring from the SEALs. After his buddy and former team leader Church asks for his help in remodeling a rundown resort, Steve jumps at the chance, but he doesn’t know if he’ll stay for the long-term. Then he meets his sexy next-door neighbor Sam. An air of strength and vulnerability surrounds her, and he soon realizes she might be in trouble.
Bakery chef Samantha Appelhoff knows someone is stalking her, but she doesn’t have proof. Now that she’s moved into a new apartment, she’s trying to focus on the future, but fear and paranoia still has a grip on her. Then she meets Steve. Though he’s gorgeous, she’s too busy and preoccupied for romance, and she’s not into flings. But when her stalker returns, she may not have a choice but to accept the help of the SEAL living down the hall.
Steve and Sam are amazing, well rounded, three-dimensional characters, and they fit well together. They’re both fighting personal demons, but they’re not letting those demons control them. There was only one sex scene, which is surprising due to the drool-worthy cover, but it made sense that the H/h waited so long to fall into bed.
Steve’s military buddies are awesome, and I would love to know more about them. I’m sure they’ll all be getting books, which I’ll search for.
The villain was a piece of work. I felt sorry for him and hated him at the same time.
There are two unanswered questions, neither of which affected the overall story—What did Sam tell the police in order to explain her apartment fire; and what did the police think when they found Mrs. Himmelwright’s apartment?
Anyway, I really enjoyed this story. I didn’t find any typos, and Ms. Zanders writing style was smooth and easy to follow. I would love to read more of her books.
5 Stars

3.5.....The writing is good but I got bored about halfway. It just needed to move a bit faster. If you're looking for a romance move on. This has more about her running and hiding her identity than it does actual romantic moments. I didn't like the other brothers being so into her...it had an ick factor to it! It would have pushed my buttons had they outed the killer/tormentor about halfway then worked on getting him prosecuted. I wish more time had been spent on the relationship between Jake and Taryn/Kiara. I still think the series shows some promise. I'm waiting on a Kane book personally!

DNF at 43%. It starts out very promising. But I cannot ignore this insulting plot hole. One star; no sexist nonsense between the pair, ALL the sexist nonsense for this gaping plot hole of her have a business degree, yet working without a written contract. WHAT.

Content Warning: Stalking from both points of view.

Sweet and short. Sexual tension, but no sex.

I have been a fan of this author since the Callaghan series. There is just something magical about how here characters all feel that certain something that connects them. It isn't cheesy like a normal instant-love type connection either. It appeals to me on a visceral level which made me excited to know that she was writing in this world because I knew she could do it justice.

Rockstar romances are hit and miss for me, but I knew that with her special brand of something that she could do it justice. I was correct in that assumption because I fell in love with Jace and Eva. It was refreshing to see all the Ask Ida advice as these two came to terms with their connection and their love. This book would have rated higher without Ian in the mix. I didn't understand why he was even needed at all to the story especially with what he wanted after this many years. It just didn't make sense. Jace and Eva had enough to pull them through towards a HEA while just dealing with the issues Eva had. Just my opinion. This was a great addition to the Cocky Club World.

There were parts I really enjoy Ed and others not as much. I wanted a better reason or explanation of what happened with the introduction. It just felt so out of place. It was nice seeing some of the old clan though so that helped me along with the characters keep me invested. I'm not sure I would have if I hadn't read about this family before because this story was lacking that special magic from those stories.

Best since book one

I enjoyed the 1st book. The second one was not great. By the third, I gave up. But, a friend said this book was great and I'm glad I gave it a try. It was worth the time!

Adorable! Chloe has had such a difficult life and to see her get her mate was so sweet! I wish the story was longer-I could have read about Sam and Chloe forever!

There were some things I hated about this book but in the end, I liked this book. I hope the characters develop more with each book in the series.

A very good story. Reasonable actions on the part of hero and heroine. Good sex, but thats not the focus of the story. Great set up for the family!

This was a good story but had a few loose ends that the two previous ones did not. Some confusing parts as well.

This series has me on the fence. I love the characters and the storyline. I don't like the edging into some themes of dominance and submission. Though this author actually manages to handle that without making it the central point of the story, and also doesn't overdo it when abuse or rape is involved.

Solid 4 stars, and would be 5 if the d/s stuff were more playful.

A really good story and characters ruined by the bdsm and dom/sub BS.

Too bad. I was hoping that the author would continue in the excellent vein that the rest of the books are in.

DNF at 52% BECAUSE

I enjoyed the first book well enough; it was an enjoyable read and the story was a good mystery. I liked Ian in that book, and I liked Ian in this book, although, again, a lot of angst could be avoided if people would just say things instead of being vague, but then, where's the story? I liked Ian until all of a sudden, he turned into Christian Grey about 45% of the way into the book, becoming possessive to the point of semi-abusiveness, paranoid about any other man in Lexi's life, controlling, and generally a man that I'd run like hell from. One moment he's full of love and imagining Lexi pregnant with their child, unable to imagine his life without her, and the next he's aggressively "claiming" her as his. That was it for me. I also skipped over the section where Lexi reads from the selection by her favorite author. I should have seen where it was headed. I know Ian had a darker side, but that was just too sudden a switch, and not to a pleasant place. Oh well. Everyone else loves it, so I guess I'm in the minority.

A sweet romantic read which puts the heroine as a romance writer and the hero, an average joe who finds her very interesting. He wants her, she wants him, ex girlfriend causes trouble, best friend becomes match maker. Through in a historic home, a protective dog, and meddling parents and you have what is an everyday story that any of us could actually live.½

Taryn is a woman on the run. Her family was dessimated, her body ravaged and finally when she was able to escape, it was only a temporary reprieve before she had to run again. Now ten years later, Taryn finds herself homeless, jobless and almost penniless, that is until she walks into Jake's bar and offers her services as a bartender. Jake definitely notices the tiny woman and that is more to her than appears. But digging into Taryn's past could put him and his entire family in danger.½
