Pure storyteller mode, not a sentence that doesn't move the plot along. Rabi is the unappreciated wife in a Cinderella role, but virtue isn't passive here: she literally fights her tormenter (her husband's other wife) and when this ends badly she sets up shop and works to support herself and her children.

Contrasting with Rabi's husband's bad treatment of a good wife is the man who marries her daughter. He's faced with the same situation of a good wife and bad ones - but he can tell the difference and acts accordingly.

Half soap, half morality play: the good are rewarded, the bad punished. The author's view of the right that must be restored to the world goes further, more conservatively, than my own, but so long as Rabi remains in charge I think we can call it a happy ending.… (altro)
