Written in the same informal style as many of the memoirs of old railwaymen across the world, often typed up by members of the family, but not as good as most of the British ones I've read. He was a stationmaster, not a footplateman, so perhaps that reflects my own prejudices, as I'm a footplateman myself. Some rather conservative and racist attitudes come through, but that reflects a common reality amongst that generation of whites in Africa.

The author holds degrees in biology and epistemology. Before moving to Alaska, he taught at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley California. Koviashuvik is an Eskimo word meaning, "living in the present moment with quiet joy and happiness." This work chronicles Sam and Billie Wright's twenty years in Alaska, beginning with building a twelve by twelve foot log cabin with hand tools. It ends with Billie's death on December 7, 1987.
