My housemate the english major gave me this book. He met the author Douglas Woolf in the early 70's on the UNC Chapel Hill campus, the pit I believe, while Mr. Woolf was selling his novel and hanging out [probably trying to pick up women]. My friend asked me to read it, which I did I think. While the book was still in my possession I was in pain after banging my knee or some such and I grabbed the book and bit it, leaving teeth impressions that penetrated many pages, in a "John Wayne" manner to keep from yelling and detracting from my manly aura.

When I returned the book to my friend he was very disappointed when he noticed the teeth marks and told me curtly to "keep the book it was worthless with the disfiguring marks on it". So I kept the book and it is on my shelf. I think my housemate was pissed about the weekly dart tournament we & neighbors had just held in the attic, I had won again as usual. The winner got to keep a shiny trophy, awarded for writing to the divorced wife of the owner of the house, in his room. Somehow beer and other potions made this interesting I guess you had to be there.

PS I could be persuaded to part with this book and if your name is Ken you could pretend it was autographed by the author and handed to you. It reads "To Ken Thanks for stopping by. Best wishes Doug Woolf " and gives Mr. Woolf's POB in Wa.

Wow, I just googled Mr. Woolf and he was a pretty neat person who passed away in 1992. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Woolf. From reading the book I thought he would be a bohemian type but he was a WWII vet with an interesting background. I wish I had been with my friend when he met him.
