Gift from a coworker. Held off on lifting flaps because I feel like little hands should do that, and we're probably a few years away from that. Pretty cute, though I did notice several Pokemon were stock versions. Kiddo's not going to care though, just needs to learn to count!

"Danielle are you inflating book count with kid books"
Not intentionally. I want to mark whether or not I've gotten through things, no matter the age demographic!

A treasure for Pokemon lovers. This dense reference book is crammed with information about the popular anime series targeted to younger audiences. We bought it for our daughters who are fans of the show. The format is like an encyclopedia, with reference information covering topics like the characters, the different types of Pokemon, and the various story arcs from the series. Since most new Pokemon series are set in a different region of the fictional world that is Ash's home, the book is broken up into sections corresponding to those different areas. Each section introduces the characters new to that story arc, highlights the battles that Ash and Pikachu fight, shares important story highlights, covers mythical or legendary Pokemon introduced in that region, and lists all the Pokemon covered in the story arc with a picture and stats. Fans of the Pokemon franchise can use this as a handy reference to look up any sort of trivia from the first several seasons of the show. It is a dry read going straight through from beginning to end, but most readers won't use it that way. The layout is of exceptionally high quality, with the text balanced with plenty of graphics and illustrations, everything sorted in clear and compact sections, and helpful tools like indexes and a table of contents. This is a lovely package that delivers a large amount of information in an organized form that makes it easy for young readers to grasp. DK has published a fine example of a reference book in this visual companion.… (altro)

EMOLGA MAKES MISCHIEF is a Pokemon book that's at the 2nd grade reading level.

And whether your child is going to like it will depend on 'how into' Pokemon they are. I say that because, unlike the other Pokemon practice readers that I've read, this one really focuses on types, strategies, and techniques.

If you look at the following sample, you can see a little of what I mean. In this book there's a great deal of text that deals with what kind of Pokemon the characters are (electric, flying, or water -types, for example). And there's talk about different types of attacks: flamethrowing, volt switch, attrack, hidden, and vine whip, for example.

"That made Simisear really angry. The big red Pokemon
took a couple of swings at Emolga. But the fast Electric-
and Flying-type dodged the Fire-type's fists.

"Emo emo!" cried Emolga, laughing again.
