John Anthony West (1932–2018)

This is one of those books that has both good and bad aspects.

The good: John Anthony West has spent many years in Egypt. He knows a great deal about its modern culture and the ins and outs of visiting the country. You should take his opinions on this as good advice, albeit more than slightly out-of-date when it comes to the practical aspects of travel in that country.

West also knows the lay of the land insofar as what's and 'where's of the monuments of this ancient land. He has a good deal of information on them. So long as you don't believe everything he might say about the interpretation of the culture that built them, you'll be fine.

In zijn boek De Tempel van de Mens vertelt John A. West dat de principe van het bestaan van het universum bij alle religies is gelijk. Daarom komt de mythen en symbolen als belangrijk factor bij de heilig leringen en religie, dan concreet feiten. Wij hebben een andere uitzicht en visie naar de symbolen dan de oude Egyptenaren. De symbool vertegenwoordigt een principe of functie en niet alleen maar als idee of een middel om een idee of betekenis over te dragen. De Egyptenaren geloofden dat de mens op aarde om het pad van de terugkeer naar de bron te vinden. Door eerste de cyclisch natuur ( weg van osiris) en de rechtstreeks weg naar de wederopstanding die het individu in zijn aardse leven te kunnen bereiken ( weg van Horus).
De Egyptische tempels waren gebouwd volgens de cyclus van de sterren constellaties, en daarom is de astronomie een bepalende factor voor het bouwen van de tempels. De Egyptenaren hadden een geheel visie naar het bestaan, dat zij hun beschaving in harmonie met de kosmos alleen zouden willen bouwen.… (altro)
