Wow! This novel was fantastic! Other than another Horror novel, I had no idea what I was getting into. It was so well written that I was drawn in from the very first page. It was so accurate and seemed so real, I began to wonder if Eddie Hansen really existed. I loved the way it drew me in, put me on an emotional rollercoaster and wondering if Timothy’s accusations are true. I must admit, this book gave me chills! I was hoping Eddie would go home and save himself, instead his quest for truth put his life and soul in danger. I can’t wait to see what else Mike Wech has in store for us.

Demonic possession, the SIDS serial killer, exorcisms, and a nut house - what's not to like? Well, I didn't like the main character, Eddie, so I didn't really care what happened to him, but other than that, a pretty good read!

***Review Copy***

This book started out strong but ultimately became confusing and not very interesting. Maybe it was because I got no closure to the story. I'll have to purchase the new books in the series to see if I can get a grasp on the whole picture, since as of right now it seems fragmented and unresolved.

If you don't plan on reading the entire trilogy don't bother starting this book.

I wanted to give this book 3 stars, but it lacked a good editor and a more satisfying ending. Seven-X is written in an investigative reporter's 'journal style' which was pretty successful except: some of the journals are written in the present tense or mixed. One entry I'm still unable to figure out when and how the reporter wrote the entry, but I can overlook that for a good read. The story is a bit unbelievable for a good part of the book because the reporter is, how should I say, a bit over-the-top with his reactions. Rather than reacting with shock or surprise in some places, he reacts with extreme anger first with now apparent explanation.

I was a bit disappointed in descriptions. I have no idea what the wards look like, but I know how they smell. Mr. Wech has a seriously bad habit of misusing the question mark in declarative sentences (ex. "He wants you to know Him?" This is declarative and using the question mark changes it to a question instead which is incorrect in context.) "For all intensive purposes" should be "For all intents and purposes". "Don't give me the partly line, Carl." Oops. He uses commas extensively and places them in the wrong places and slows the narrative ("...and it literally felt, like I was being torn in two...")

The novel reminds me of a screenplay stripped of the "fade ins" or converted to novel format. Still I overlooked the faults because it -was- interesting. But Mr. Wech left me sorely unhappy by building suspense up to the climax and just as I expected something to happen, the book ends. Very unsatisfying. It was too much like the author couldn't conceive a better ending.

I was also disappointed with the interaction with the demons. A lot of exposition, very little one on one. It might work better visually, but lacked impact in print.

The book is just okay, but could be great with a little more work.

(UPDATE: OCT 1, 2012)
The author informs me that I have he wrong version, however there is no update on Amazon. He is looking into that. Also, with the knowledge now that this is a trilogy, I am willing to relinquish most of my complaint about the ending tentative to the 2nd book.
