I was confounded by the inconsistent writing. At times the story read smoothly and at other times it read like a jumbles mess. I had a hard time with Serge's inferiority complex. I feel it was overdone. This story could have been so much better with more careful writing or a good thorough editor.

Short and sweet.
However this story holds one of my greatest RL bugbears. Be prepared for ranting.
Our hero has been left in dire financial straits by a con artist former boyfriend. It is the catalyst that makes him reject 'Mr Perfect' and thus hold the pivotal plot point of the story.
* Money is hand to mouth tight, or so we are told repeatedly, yet the MC goes out and buys lunch. A lunch that he could have made for a fraction of the cost at home.
* At one point the MC calls a cab rather than hopping on public transport or just walking home.
* The MC is living in a tiny studio apartment while the house that the dickwad ex insisted they buy together, is languishing waiting to be sold. Why not live in the house? Why spend extra money on rent when you're already paying a mortgage? Why not rent out a room in said house?
* On that subject, what benefit was there to the 'conning' ex on forcing him to get a mortgage? Unless they remortgaged on an existing property there is no benefit to getting a mortgage for financial gain.
Rant over.

A very mixed bag of 'best of' stories.

My favourite stories (all 4 star reads) were
Batteries Not Included by J.L. Merrow
Just My Style by J.M. Snyder
What's in Your Box? (Djinn #1) by A.R. Moler

FYI I've not read the Hat trick story as I've not read the rest of the story.
