The basic events of the story itself were good however, the book on Kindle had MANY grammatical/punctuation/wrong word errors and it was very distracting. The story could have really been written with more depth throughout. As it was, I felt like I was getting a "SparkNotes" version. Not a very long book and it felt rushed. Not to mention, main character really didn't seem to experience a lot of angst over the fact that her father was missing and possibly dead.

Author Sydell Voeller's "Dummy & Me" is a short, but sweet read about a fifteen year old girl who is struggling with not feeling like she fits in anywhere! Her mother left to 'follow her dreams' as an actress, her father has become a stranger and she can't seem to find her niche at school or get noticed by the boy she is crushing on. Thankfully, Deanna finds joy in volunteering at the local children's hospital using her talent as a ventriloquist to brighten the lives of the young hospital patients. Instead of being proud of her gift, she now worries about what the kids at school will think of her if they found out.

"Dummy & Me" is a warm, coming of age story filled with the insecurities of a young girl who learns that by reaching out to others, she finds her own inner peace and strength. I found this to be a warm story that will resonate with tweens on up without getting too bogged down in the message it delivers!

I was provided with a copy of this book by the author in exchange for me honest review.

Author Sydell Voeller has a gift for telling a touching and warm love story with the promise of a happy ever after that wraps around you like a warm hug. She has breathed life into each character, making them so believably real and vulnerable, yet strong, that there was not one character that I didn't feel I connected to. Each scene comes alive with lifelike descriptions that I saw and felt. When the door opened and the chill winds blew in, I shivered! I think Sydell Voeller and her novel The Heart Leads Home is proof that a love story can be a completely engaging and enthralling read without being explicit in details.
