This book is very resourceful in the classroom because it provides many different experiment that students can do at home and in the classroom. This book connects the outside world with science content in the classroom. I recommend this book to teachers that are teaching how to conduct experiments effectively.

Very simple experiments for young children. Why to objects roll downhill? What makes a ball bounce? Why do I have a shadow? It is informative, but not very exciting to read.

"Janice VanCleave loves to teach kids about science. She's the award-winning author of more than 30 books, including the bestselling 'Science for Every Kid' and 'Spectacular Science Projects' series." Source: The book's back cover. The illustrator, Michele Nidenhoff, has illustrated multiple children's books and her work has appeared in various magazines and educational publications. "[This work] [p]resents simple experiments answering such questions about the human body as 'Why does my skin pucker up when I take a long bath?' 'Why are my bones hard?' and 'How much breath do I have?'" Source: Summary from the title page. The reviewer for 'School Library Journal' said of this work, "[It has] stunningly clear, direct, and informative projects." The appendix has section summaries for categories of the body, such as skin, circulation, digestion, etc. A glossary is provided and the book is well indexed.

This book initially intrigued me because it was a trip down memory lane since I used Janice VanCleave books back in middle school to help give me ideas for science fair projects. While I realize this book was more for an elementary or middle school level, I found some activities that could be used as fantastic demonstrations in the high school classroom. Think a transparent earthworm home to demonstrate niches, or an ant farm to clearly show how division of labor works in a colony, or 3 different plants with 3 different watering treatments to show the effects of acid rain. All such simple activities, but the way she puts these activities in the context of ecological concepts made reading this book SO worth while!

This book contains science lessons on about 25 different topics. The lessons include activities for the child to do. Section 12 is called Hot to Cold and is about heat transfer. It is very informative and could help a child understand how heat is transferred.

This book is the ultimate science fair book. It tells you what to do and what not to do. It gives you many ideas on what you could do for you project and takes you through it step by step it also tells you how to set up your display. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to everyone who is doing a science fair project. It would help you out a lot from beginning to end.

This book contains many fantastic science experiments. It covers all parts of science, from biology to earth science to physics. Procedures are clearly explained, and most of the materials are things you can find around your house or would be inexpensive at the grocery store. What I found to be not so great about this book was the visuals. The pictures are not too developed and I think the experiments would be a lot better if students had a better example in the pictures to look off of to make sure they are doing the steps correctly.

This book is aimed for young children between the grades of Pre-K and 2nd grade. The book is filled with many different work sheets and activity ideas that teachers can use to follow their science lesson plans. The book aims on activities in investigating, observing, communication, making and using definitions, measuring and estimating, and grouping. There are fun and easy work sheets where not too much thinking is involved and then there are more time consuming experiments that can be done. I would recommend this book to all teachers teaching science to young children.

This activity book is awesome for teachers because it covers 5 different fields of science: astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. For each experiment it also includes the purpose, materials, procedure, results, and why sections. I rate this book 5/5 because it provides thought out experiments that are low-cost scientific fun.

I enjoyed this book because it can be used for older grades such as 4ht and 5th grade science projects. I like this book because at the very beginning, it gives a step-by-step process about logging and designing and experimenting during the science project. It tells how to collect data, how to come up with a hypothesis, and how to do topic research. This would be a very good book to use in the classroom. It is an in depth book to read so I would recommend letting the older grades benefit from this book as opposed to younger grades.

This book features forty science fair project ideas for elementary grade students. It is nice because each project includes independent, controlled, and dependent variables, as well as the control for the experiment. Each also offers suggestions for how to complete the investigative process and the project. It would be good for children to gain ideas about science fair projects.

I rate this a 5/5 because of how great and easy the experiments are and how much children could learn from them. With all subjects in science, this book is great for taking into the classroom and hold close to you at all times.

I felt this activity book was useful because at the beginning it told about the way to go about science fair projects. It talked about the different sections and processes to a science fair project. I also liked the different array of projects and activities students can do for projects. There seemed to be a number of different projects for students to choose from and for all age students.

This book is really neat! The book is divided into two parts. The first part talks about different types of scientists. The second part discusses individual scientists. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 because each category contains pictures and text. The text highlights vocabulary words with definitions. My favorite part of this book is that at the end of each description is a lesson plan to use in the classroom that has to do with that topic. Each topic also includes a “More Fun With…” section which extends the lesson to even more activities.

This science fair project book is a great book for science projects or for classroom projects. The projects in the book can be made into lessons about Math, Science, English, and History. I think that this is a book that students would like to use when it came time for the science fair.

This book is a very hands on and helpful guide for doing science projects. It has 20 activities broken down within the book to learn different things on molecules and other science activities as well. It covers: building blocks, super chains, breakdown, spacey, clingers, on the move, uphill climbers, tug of war, escape, mixers, separate, crystals, honeycombs, color changes, I.D., stretchy, heavy water, cleansing power, supporters, and sinkers. The book offers several resourceful charts and illustrations along with some guides and/or suggestions in the front of the book. It basically has quick and easy lesson plans laid out for each activity. It introduces the activities then lists the materials needed, the procedure, what the result should be, and also explains why. These are quick, easy and fun activities for the you students to do. I would say the older end of the elementary spectrum though.

This book is filled with instructions for experiments that are fun and understandable, even to those who do not know much about the inner workings of chemistry. Some intriguing chemical experiments include, floating an egg on water, testing for the presence of starch in different materials, and observing the effect that color has on the amount of radiation that an object absorbs. Many experiments have useful results, and this book could be useful in chemistry classrooms to help students understand the simplicity of laboratory experiments in terms of the format: purpose, materials, procedure, results, and why.

An excellent book with information on dinosaurs and a descriptive informative lab activity to further expand what was discussed/read, from a more abstract theory, into a more concrete idea for children. A wonderful book for elementary through middle school children. A must for every homeschool library! Christians will want to balance some of the info on "dating" with their own creationism views though but still a great book. Also included are suggested books with descriptions on each.
