Breve biografia
Cat has written & photographed several nonfiction titles for children, and has her first adult title coming out in the fall of 2008.

She and her family are sheep and cattle ranchers in western Wyoming, where they also raise guardian dogs. She likes to spend her free time with nomadic sheepherders in western Wyoming, documenting their lives, and the lives of their sheep herds, through photography.

As a newspaper reporter, and publisher, Cat Urbigkit has won numerous awards for her coverage of agricultural and environmental issues. She has made it her priority to write factual books for children that promote positive views of agriculture in the United States. She's recently expanded her scope to begin work on several nature titles.

Delightful color photos and accessible text describe the important roles of guardian dogs in protecting sheep. Another wonderful example of the value of dogs!

I originally picked up this book because I was looking for something on sheep. At first I was unsure how I would enjoy it because so many books of this sort are the same old overly simple "this animal is friends with this animal" concept and are so full of excess sweet that you get sick from it half way through.

This book may be simple enough for very young children, but it is not afraid to add longer words to a child's vocabulary in a way that they can easily understand. The premise of animal friendship is handled in a mature way that is all encompassing and comes full circle as the animals grow and move on from one job to another.

An excellent circle time story for talking about jobs animals do, about life on an animal farm, and (of course) about friendship.
