Beacon Press and the Pentagon Papers di Allison Trzop
Beacon Press, which is one of the UUA's (Unitarian Universalist) book publishers, published the "Pentagon Papers on October 22, 1971. A week later the FBI subpoenaed UUAs bank records. The U. S. Court of Appeals ordered a halt. Within days the FBI is examining the bank records. On January 11, 1972 UUA attorneys seek a temporary injunction. At 1:30 p.m. at press conference called by the UUA, FBI agents serve two subpoenas on Gobin Stair, director of Beacon Press. Forty-five minutes later the subpoenas are withdrawn. On January 21 Gobin is served another subpoena to appear at the Ellsberg-Russo trial in Los on March 7th. April 20th for the first time in history, the Senate goes before the Supreme Court to argue a case. May 5th, volume 5 of the Pentagon Papers, edited Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn, is published. June 5th Gobin Stair is served a subpoena to testify at the Ellsberg-Russo trial. June 17th five men are arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee Headquarters at the Watergate Hotel. June 29th in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court denies immunity to Gravel's aides and Beacon Press. May 11, 1973, the Ellsberg case is dismissed. August 8, 1974, President Nixon resigns.… (altro)
