Memento Monstrum is a terrifically charming story suitable for children of all ages. Cute, funny, and thoroughly heartwarming, it more than delivers on the promise of its concept and cover art.

I would have absolutely adored this book when I was a little kid whose heart held equal space for cuteness and all things spooky. As an adult whose tastes in children's fiction have held steady throughout the decades, I found it utterly delightful--and got, perhaps, more of the references than I would have as a little kid. The best children's books often contain a few morsels aimed at keeping adults from getting bored while reading out loud; here one may find nods to the iconic Universal horror films, ballet legends, classic literature, spy thrillers, and music ranging from The Beatles to 21st-century East Asian pop. For all that, Memento Monstrum never loses sight of its primary audience, and I think that plenty of kids would find it a hilariously satisfying read.

Highly recommended for all who seek something adorable and witty to gift or read to the children in their lives.

This has Dracula (looking like a bat) watching his three grandkids for two days. So they are into the books when they find an old photo album. Dracula starts telling them his adventures with each of the characters. There is a Yeti that likes to dance, his first pet (a fish that becomes something much more), an invisible man, a giant spider, and a werewolf. Throughout his life he was also chased by his archenemy.

The story is so cute, dialogue witty and fun, and I just melted over the fantastic artwork! This is so adorable and clever! It's just one of the best books for kids! You will be reading this a great deal or, if they are old enough, they will read it over and over! Perfect gift giving idea too!… (altro)

Als Chef der Hölle hat man es nicht leicht. Daher freut sich der Teufel schon auf seinen wohlverdienten Feierabend, aber leider kommt dann noch eine Lieferung herein. Na gut, im Salzsäurepool ist sie gut aufgehoben. In der Glotze kommt eine Sendung, in der ein Höllenforscher erklärt, wie Hausdämonen entstanden sind. Der Hausdämon Cornibus unterstützt dabei.
Es ist ein ungewöhnliches Kinderbuch. Der Stil ist comichaft in schwarz-weiß. Super gefallen hat mir der rote Schnitt.
Der Höllenchef scheint nicht gerade der Fleißigste zu sein, der Feierabend ist ihm wichtiger. Knuffig finde ich Cornibus, der aber auch eine andere Seite in sich trägt. Ohne Schokolade läuft bei ihm wohl nichts und sprachlich könnte er noch ein bisschen an sich arbeiten. Super finde ich auch das Cover mit Cornibus.
Es mag sein, dass Kindern so etwas gefällt, mir hat es nicht so gefallen. Dadurch dass es relativ wenig Text gibt, haben Kinder natürlich das Buch schnell durch und ein Lese-Erfolgserlebnis. Ich fände es besser, wenn den Kindern ein wenig abgefordert wird beim Lesen und die Geschichten dennoch unterhaltsam und spannend sind. Die Handlung ist recht dürftig, was nicht unbedingt dazu beiträgt, dass die Fantasy angeregt wird.
Das Buch hat witzige Seiten, aber es hat mich nicht so ganz überzeugt.… (altro)
