Incredibly eye opening and a pleasure to read.

Highly recommend to everyone as a check on your own privilege and blind spots.

(audio nonfiction/memoir ~7h30m, read by the author)

Taussig seems like a great teacher and professor (not because she is "inspirational" but because she is skilled at explaining things and making things relatable, and passionate enough about it to make you want to listen) so it's too bad that more people aren't that interested in reading about and understanding others' disability experiences. Bright new voice sharing a new way for us to look at disability. Some of her truths are difficult to hear and accept, but they are real, genuine and legitimate. The ablism of "non-disabled" people can be cutting and hurtful. We need to look through the eyes of the disabled to really see what is needed and, maybe more importantly, what is not.

what a book! i really loved the author's writing style. it was easy to read. easy to understand. and a great starting place for disability studies. Taussig puts things in a very easy to follow way. she's intelligent, funny, relatable and self-aware. and i really enjoyed listening to her thoughts and stories about issues of disability and access
